[h=3]Abstract[/h] Many researchers around the world are focused on designing universal influenza vaccines, intended to induce broad-spectrum and long-lasting immunity to influenza. However, it is unlikely that this goal will be achieved within the next decade, and in the meantime it would be useful to give more attention to improving existing influenza vaccines, which have proved to be safe and effective during their long history of use. Here we discuss one possible strategy to improve the immunogenicity of influenza vaccines, by modifying the genomes of vaccine reassortant viruses.
