April 7, 2011 -Tri-Union Seafoods LLC is issuing a precautionary, voluntary recall of a limited amount of Chicken of the Sea brand 6.5-ounce chopped clams. The product is mislabeled and may contain tiny shrimp, and the company is conducting this precautionary, voluntary recall to ensure public health as shellfish is considered an allergen. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to shellfish run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. There have been no reported illnesses.
Tri-Union Seafoods? trace-back measures determined potential distribution of the product at retail was limited to the following retail distribution centers: Wakefern in Pennsylvania; C&S in New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont; MDV/Nash Finch in Virginia; Food Lion in Pennsylvania and Virginia; and Jefferson Wholesale in Pennsylvania. The Chicken of the Sea brand 6.5-ounce chopped clams was distributed in November and December of 2010, has the UPC code 0 480730 6 and the following product code and best by date combination:
