Contaminated water at 77% Mumbai homes: survey

More than 77% households in the city are vulnerable to deadly diseases due to contaminated water supply, claims a survey carried out by Eureka Forbes along with GFK, a research institute.

Their water audit report for 2013 revealed that levels of Total Dissolved Solids ( TDS), Hardness, Chlorides, Nitrates, etc. which are responsible for water contamination have exceeded more than the permissible limits in certain parts of Mumbai.

Tap water used for drinking in 13% of homes in Mumbai: Study

MUMBAI: Three out of four residents of the city worry about the quality of drinking water, says a new survey released on Monday.

This is not surprising considering the BMC found that one out of every seven samples of drinking water in July was contaminated with E-coli bacterium. E-coli is responsible for stomach ailments such as severe diarrhoea.
