Romanian Press: Reasons for Advent of Bird Flu Not Yet Known

Bucharest. The Romanian authorities found the reason for the second wave of bird flu in the country: The Storks Have Lost their Way ? this is the leading headline of today?s edition of Realitatea Romaneasca newspaper. The head of the Veterinary-Sanitary Service Nicolae Lazar pointed out yesterday that this year the migrating birds did not fly along the Danube as usual but flew over the Carpathians and thus transmitted the bird flu to Transylvania, the newspaper reads. After scandalizing all Europe with the claim that the H5 virus was put in a parcel and sent to Bucharest from Hungary and Slovakia the Romanian authorities decided to shift the responsibility to the migrating birds. This is much better as the wild ducks cannot speak and thus cannot cause a diplomatic scandal in case they were unjustly accused, the newspaper comments ironically.

Romania Libera is asking whether the head of the Romanian Secret Service Radu Timofte has not shouldered the responsibility for the scandalous intelligence report which claims the reason for the advent of the bird flu in the country is the import of live poultry form Hungary and Slovakia.
