PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. ?There are confirmed cases of whooping cough at two Upstate elementary schools, according to officials.

West End Elementary and Forest Acres Elementary have one confirmed case each, according to health officials.

Department of Health and Environmental Control Regional Medical Director for the Upstate Public Health Region Dr. Melissa Overman said the case at West End Elementary School had possible exposures occurring March 10-21...

State health officials are asking health care providers to be on the watch for pertussis in Pickens County since there has been a spike in cases over the past few weeks.


State health officials are asking health care providers to be on the watch for pertussis in Pickens County since there has been a spike in cases over the past few weeks.

At this time last year, there were 66 cases statewide. But of the 30 cases reported in the state so far this year, 13 have been in Pickens County, including two cases at West End Elementary and Forest Acres Elementary that were reported in March, according to the state Department of Health and Environmental Control...
