SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (WCBD) ? The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control on Tuesday confirmed a case of measles in the upstate.

Health officials say the virus was found in a Spartanburg County resident who had recently traveled outside the U.S. and confirmed the case after receiving test results from its certified public health laboratory Monday, Oct. 29.

DHEC has begun a contact investigation and is in the process of notifying people who may have been exposed in specific settings...

DHEC reports more measles cases in Spartanburg County

Three children in Spartanburg County have tested positive for measles, according to a statement from S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.

DHEC officials say the three children had not been vaccinated against the disease.

The first case was reported Oct. 30 and two additional cases were reported Friday. The children are not of school age and do not attend daycare.

DHEC has notified healthcare providers to be alert for patients with signs and symptoms of measles and suggests healthcare professionals immediately report clinically suspected measles cases to their regional public health office.

According to the statement, the three children were seen at two urgent care facilities in October.

?We are looking for people who may have visited those locations,? DHEC spokesman Tommy Crosby said.

Those who visited AFC Urgent Care at 1667 E. Main St., Duncan between 9 a.m. and noon Oct. 14 or MEDcare Urgent Care at 301 E. Wood St., Spartanburg between 4 to 7:15 p.m. Oct. 27 are asked to contact the Spartanburg County Health Department at 864-596-3337...

Over the past two weeks, six cases of measles have been identified in Spartanburg County, according to a statement from the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.

The first case was reported Oct. 30, with two more cases reported Nov. 2. On Thursday, DHEC reported three more measles cases in the county. The measles virus is highly contagious and spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes...
