More than 50 percent of the population in Sweden in May 2010 had antibodies to the virus that caused the pandemic in the last year. In contrast, only 25-30 percent of elderly people over 65 years with excellent protection against the virus and is recommended to take this year's influenza vaccine. The results have been presented in a seroimmunologisk study by the Infectious Diseases Institute (SMI).
The purpose of this study was to find out what protection against the flu, the Swedish population had post-vaccination and flu season. A total of 2651 samples analyzed in the laboratory at SMI. The study also shows that 80 percent of the age group of children and adolescents, 5-14 years, had high levels of antibodies against the pandemic virus.
