There is evidence that Influenza A H1N1v continues to circulate in Scotland with the overall levels of illness which may be due to the virus higher this week compared to last week. The overall trend continues to be upwards. A similar picture is seen in H1N1v hospitalisations and H1N1v associated deaths.
Highlights for the period covering midday Monday 19 October to midday Monday 26 October 2009
? From the all Scotland general practice reporting scheme (reporting from 88% of all Scottish practices), the daily average GP consultation rate for Scotland was 111.4 per 100,000 (95% CI 108.5, 114.3), this is an increase of 27% from last week (88.0/100,000)
? A further 176 people, confirmed as having Influenza A H1N1v infection, required hospital admission in the last week (Figure 8). The cumulative total number of laboratory confirmed hospitalised cases are 556 (as at midday Monday 26 October) (Table 5). Since the end of September the number of hospitalised cases has more than doubled.
? The number of deaths from all causes reported during the week is consistent with the levels expected from historical figures and will continue to be monitored closely (Figure 7). In section 3 we describe that there have been 8 further deaths reported since the previous report. The total number of deaths among confirmed Influenza A H1N1v cases in Scotland is now 23 (as at midday Monday 26 October) (Table 4). (See Section 1c)
