53 dengue cases found at Ang Mo Kio Ave 5 and 10

The largest cluster of dengue cases has been found at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 and Avenue 10.

A local news report said there were 53 dengue cases recorded there.

Five dengue clusters have also been found in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 and Avenue 8.

SINGAPORE - With the dengue season in full swing, 26-year-old Ho Yi Ming has every reason to worry. The tax associate has battled dengue fever not once but thrice, with each subsequent infection wreaking more havoc than the previous.

Dengue, also known as breakbone fever, afflicts more than 50 million people worldwide each year, according to the World Health Organisation.

In Singapore, peak dengue transmission occurs during the warmer months, usually between June and October when higher temperatures and rainfall make good breeding conditions for its carrier, the Aedes mosquito.

As of June 16, there have been a total of 1,719 dengue cases here this year - slightly lower than the 2,010 cases seen during the same period last year. This year, no dengue-related deaths have been reported, said a Ministry of Health (MOH) spokesperson...
