Weekly number of Dengue cases in Singapore hits record high

SINGAPORE, June 4 (Xinhua) -- The weekly number of new dengue cases reported in Singapore surged to an all time high over the seven days from May 26 to June 1, according to statistics from the city state's ministry of health released Tuesday.

There were 756 infections reported in the week, which is 43 more than the previous peak in September 2005 during the worst dengue epidemic in Singapore. About 14,000 people were infected in 2005, with 25 deaths reported.

A total of 820 dengue cases were reported in the week ending June 8 - the highest number on record to date.

This brings the total number of cases recorded this year to 9,303, surpassing the 8,843 in 2007's epidemic.

Singapore fights back against worsening dengue outbreak

AFP - Singapore is fighting back against a rapidly worsening dengue epidemic by distributing insect repellant to every household and recruiting hundreds of disease control officers, officials said.

Two Singaporeans have died from the virus so far this year and weekly cases hit an all-time high of 820 in the period ending June 8, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said in a statement issued late Tuesday.

More than 9,300 people were infected this year as of Tuesday, fast nearing the 13,984 infections in 2005, the worst year on record, official data showed.

NEA said its officers and volunteers would be distributing 1.2 million insect repellants to all households in the compact island of over five million from July to August this year.

SINGAPORE - SINGAPORE'S dengue toll has climbed above the five-figure mark, with 10,258 patients diagnosed since the start of the year.

And Communicable Disease Centre head Leo Yee Sin warned that the annual number of cases could top 15,000, setting a new record high.

The rise in infections does appear to have plateaued, with 813 last week - two fewer than in the preceding seven days...

SINGAPORE ? The number of weekly dengue cases hit an all-time high of 853 last week, quashing online speculation that the haze had blunted the march of the mosquito-borne disease.

The number also reversed a hopeful dip the previous week, when numbers fell for the first time in 11 weeks to 810 cases. The previous high was 814 reported cases at the start of this month. The total number of cases this year stands at 10,960 as of last week, with two deaths recorded...

A joint statement by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Environment Agency (NEA) said MOH has been notified of the death of a dengue patient who lived in the Sembawang Road area.

SINGAPORE - Another person has died of dengue.

A joint statement by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Environment Agency (NEA) said MOH has been notified of the death of a dengue patient who lived in the Sembawang Road area.

This is the third dengue death this year.

MOH and NEA expressed their deepest condolences to the family of the deceased patient.

The patient was an 86-year-old Singaporean Chinese man.

Another dengue death has been reported in Singapore. The latest victim is an Indonesian man who most likely contracted the disease overseas, but died after being treated for dengue in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health and the National Environment Agency on Wednesday.

SINGAPORE?An unusually severe dengue epidemic in Singapore has claimed its fifth fatality this year, even as health officials try to beat back the city-state?s worst-ever outbreak of the tropical disease.

The death of a 52-year-old man Tuesday came despite signs that government efforts to contain the mosquito-borne dengue virus?which has spread at an unusually rapid pace this year?were having an effect in reducing the pace of new infections in recent weeks.

As of Tuesday afternoon, officials had logged 14,363 cases of dengue fever this year, according to the National Environment Agency. The scale of the current epidemic has surpassed that of Singapore?s worst dengue outbreak in 2005, when authorities logged 14,006 confirmed cases and 27 deaths...

The Ministry of Health and the National Environment Agency (NEA) have announced today (13 Aug) in a joint statement that a 6th person has died of dengue fever.

It is the 5th dengue death confirmed to have originated in Singapore this year, with one case likely originating in Indonesia.

The deceased is a 52-year-old Chinese male who lived at Corporation Walk.

463 new dengue cases were reported last week, says Health Ministry

SINGAPORE ? The dengue situation here showed further signs of worsening, as the number of people who contracted dengue last week rose by close to 20 per cent to 463 new cases ? an eight-week high.

As of 3.30pm today (Sept 9), there were 67 reported cases since yesterday, according to latest figures from the Ministry of Health. This brings the total number of cases to 15,782, with five fatalities here thus far.

Sixth dengue death in Singapore
News Highlights
The Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Environment Agency (NEA) have been notified of the death of a dengue patient who lived at Yishun Ring Road. This is the sixth local dengue death case this year. MOH and NEA wish to express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased patient.
2. The patient was a 35-year-old Chinese woman who went to the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) Emergency Department (ED) on 28 Sep 2013 with a history of fever, chest pain, lethargy, nausea and loss of appetite. She was diagnosed with Dengue Fever and admitted. Her condition deteriorated after admission and she was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit on the same day. She subsequently passed away on 30 Sep 2013.
3. The patient?s residence was in a dengue cluster of three cases. NEA inspectors will continue with checks and conduct vector control operations in the area and residents are encouraged to cooperate fully. The public should also remain vigilant and clear any stagnant water in their homes and the vicinity. The key to effective dengue control is to eliminate all mosquito breeding habitats.
4. We are still in the midst of the dengue season in Singapore. We urge everyone to continue maintaining vigilance and prevent mosquito breeding by doing the Mozzie Wipeout weekly.
5. More details on the latest dengue situation can be found at www.dengue.gov.sg. Persons who suspect they may have dengue should consult their doctors as early as possible and use mosquito repellents in order to reduce the risk of spreading the infection further.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) has identified two dengue clusters in Orchard Road. The clusters are at the Orchard Gateway construction site and Eber Road/Oxley Rise area.
