Student at Central Collegiate in Moose Jaw diagnosed with active TB

At the end of July a student at Central Collegiate in Moose Jaw was diagnosed with active tuberculosis and now 160 other students and staff members are being tested for the disease.

Dr. Julie Kryzanowski is the medical health officer for TB Prevention and Control in Saskatchewan. She says they are also investigating two other students who have active TB in Regina and are testing at three different schools.

"Most of the cases of tuberculosis occur in the northern part of the province. We've had three in the southern part of the province (which) is a bit unusual, but it?s not outside of the normal numbers we see."

Kryzanowski says each year there are about 80 cases of active TB disease in the province. The disease is treatable with antibiotics...
