THE cause of an infection which killed three residents of a Pretoria adult rehabilitation centre and left 28 others in a critical condition was expected to be released next week, the provincial Department of Health said yesterday.
The infection at the Paul Jungnickel Rehabilitation Centre prompted the urgent intervention of the department last week after it got reports of the outbreak from the Tshwane District Communicable Disease Control programme.
Residents were reported to be experiencing consistent diarrhoea and the symptoms of the bacterial infection shigellosis.
An outbreak response team went in to assess the situation and isolated all patients involved while two who were found to be critically ill were taken to the Tshwane District Hospital for treatment...
