Malaria kills 28 children in Western Equatoria, state's Health Minister says

28 children in Western Equatoria state reportedly died of malaria in June, the state's Minister of Health, Stephen Komunyangi, said on Thursday. The minister explained that the state government is considering health interventions to contain malaria. In a related development, more than 20 children have reportedly died of suspected meningitis in the state's Mvolo county.

Komunyangi said that the state government has sent a surveillance team headed by a Health Ministry official to assess the situation.

Malaria outbreak kills 10 in Bentiu - doctors

September 30, 2011 (BENTIU) - Health officials in Unity state say 10 people have died in a recent increase in Malaria cases. Doctors say that 80 percent of patients in the state?s hospitals suffer from the potentially fatal disease, which is spread by mosquito bites.


Many people are ignorant of how they can protect themselves from Malaria. But civilians say the government in Unity state is failing to address the issue.
