At least two British pensioners have been killed and a further eight admitted to hospital after an outbreak of Legionnaires disease at a hotel in Spain.

Two British holidaymakers, both in their seventies died within hours of each other this week after being admitted to intensive care at a hospital in Benidorm on Spain's southeastern Costa Blanca.
Three other British tourists have also been treated there in the last fortnight, authorities confirmed, and another five sought treatment after returning to Britain.
All the victims were over 70 years old and fell ill last month after holidaying at the four-star AR Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, a resort along the coast from Benidorm famed for its long white sand beaches and popular with Britons seeking winter sun...

MADRID (AP) ? Spanish health officials say a third British national has died from Legionnaires' disease while vacationing in Spain.
A Valencia regional government statement Friday said the three, aged between 73 and 78, had contracted the disease at a hotel in the eastern town of Calpe.
The Valencia statement said a further 10 Britons and four Spaniards are being treated for the disease...

Legionnaires' disease that killed three Britons at Spanish hotel was detected a month before action taken
An outbreak of Legionnaires' disease at a Spanish hotel that led to the deaths of three British holidaymakers and left 13 in hospital was first detected a month before health authorities took action, it has emerged.
The Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe was finally closed by authorities on Friday after traces of the lethal bacteria were found in the plumbing system.
By that time there were at least 15 confirmed cases of the killer bug, three of which had resulted in the death of British pensioners.
The outbreak became public on Wednesday when a 76-year-old British man died in the intensive care unit of the Clinica Benidorm private hospital after contracting the illness.
Hours later it became clear that the deaths last month of two British pensioners - initially attributed to heart attacks - were also caused by Legionnaires' Disease, as revealed in post-mortem examinations.
But in fact health authorities were first made aware of a case of Legionnaires' Disease in the middle of December when it was contracted by a Spanish guest at the hotel. Two weeks later, on Dec 27, a waitress at the hotel was struck down by the bug.
