Woman of 21 years the third fatality from influenza A in Catalonia

Barcelona

The third fatal case of influenza A in Catalonia is a woman of 21 who died this week at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona and suffered "prior conditions", as reported by the Department of Health of the Government.

Although initially the Government had only informed of the new death to make public a report in which it noted the decline in the incidence of influenza A late today issued a new communique stating that the victim is a wife of 21 years.

Despite this latest death, in addition to those recorded in Tarragona, a young 32-year-obese and in Girona, a woman of 35 who suffered from various chronic diseases, the Government ensures that influenza activity in Catalonia the new virus has fallen compared to previous weeks and still remaining below the epidemic level.

Besides the three fatalities, two serious cases of patients who are admitted to the ICU.

The incidence rate is 61.2 cases per 100,000 population, today explained the Health Department, and the cases that are occurring are sporadic, with some local outbreaks.

NI hairdresser with swine flu dies

A hairdresser from Northern Ireland who went to Spain to celebrate her 21st birthday has died after contracting swine flu.

Corinna Ritchie who worked at Battisti Hair Salon on the Lisburn road in Belfast became ill while on holiday in Ibiza around two weeks ago.

The former St Dominic's pupil suffered liver failure and had to be flown by air ambulance from Ibiza to a Barcelona hospital for a liver transplant.

Her parents both flew out to Spain to keep a bedside vigil.
