We are preparing this special disaster issue of the Journal of Emergency Nursing (JEN) in the midst of the global coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. To date, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that more than 590 health care personnel have died from COVID-19 in the United States alone, and there are likely many more owing to missing data.
