Dengue tops 24,000, 23 confirmed deaths

A total of 24,518 dengue cases and 23 confirmed dengue deaths had been reported up to

June 28 from all parts of the country, the Epidemiology Unit said.

According to the epidemiologists, the highest number of dengue cases, 4,176 had been reported from the Colombo district while the second highest number, 3,539 had been reported from the Baticaloa district.The third highest number of dengue cases, 2,085 had been reported from the Gampaha district.

Over 34,000 infected with dengue in Sri Lanka

Colombo : The number of people suffering from dengue in Sri Lanka has increased to over 34,000 so far this year, with Colombo reporting the highest number of infected patients, official statistics revealed on Monday.

The statistics from the Epidemiology Unit said that in August, 1,075 patients have been diagnosed with dengue from across the island while 6,221 patients were reported last month, reports Xinhua news agency.

Some of the worst affected districts were Kandy and Gampaha.

The National Dengue Control Unit last month warned that there was an increase in the number of dengue patients this year due to the active South West monsoon rains...

Dengue claims 41 lives in Sri Lanka

Colombo, Aug 24 (IANS) Sri Lankan health authorities on Friday said 41 people had died and over 36,000 were infected by dengue across the island nation this year.

So far in August, 1,075 patients have been diagnosed with dengue across the island while 6,221 patients were reported last month, reports Xinhua news agency.

According to the authorities, the highest number of dengue cases this year totalling 6,937 had been reported from capital Colombo while the second highest number of 4,156 was reported from the eastern district of Batticaloa.

(MENAFN) The government information department declared that 52 people have been killed as at least 48,000 were infected by the dengue virus in Sri Lanka, till now.

Over 50,000 dengue cases, 56 deaths last year

A total of 50,163 dengue cases and 56 dengue deaths were reported countrywide upto December 31 last year,Epidemiology Unit sources said.

According to the sources, the highest number of dengue cases, 10,051 had been reported from the Colombo district while the second highest number, 5604 was from the Gampaha district. The third highest number of dengue cases, 4,817 had been reported from the Baticaloa district.

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) reported a total of 2,430 dengue cases during the same period. A total of 7,621 dengue cases were recorded from other parts of the Colombo district while the total number of dengue cases reported from the Western Province was 18,651, epidemiologists said. Meanwhile, medical experts and Consultants advise the public to seek medical treatment without delay for any type of fever without applying home remedies...
