Vaccination plan to cover 10,000 city hotel staff

One of the biggest mass vaccination programmes involving staff in Colombo city hotels will come underway this week, when the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) commences an immunization programme against typhoid. The programme will target over 10,000 hotel employees.
?The programme will continue over the next two months. We will be using the services of all our medical officers of health to vaccinate these hotel personnel. If they (the hotel staff) don?t come to us, we will go to their premises and vaccinate them. It is our duty as we have to protect the guests against typhoid which is widely prevalent among hotel staff?, CMC Medical head Dr Pradeep Kariyawasam told The Nation.
He said that recent medical examinations conducted on hotel employees had discovered a host of communicable diseases among them. The diseases ranged from Hepatitis (the most common) to typhoid, paratyphoid, TB, and sexually transmitted diseases (STD)....more from the source.
