Malaria outbreak in Hhohho region

THE public has been warned of malaria outbreak in the northern Hhohho.
In a report carried by the national radio, SBIS, last night, Director of the National Malaria Control Unit Simon Kunene said on Tuesday alone 10 cases of malaria were reported. He said the unit was doing everything possible to ensure that the outbreak was controlled. Areas that were found to have been affected by the outbreak include Sidwashini, Nyakatfo, Msutaneni and Ngonini.

Malaria outbreak: More than 20 cases reported

MBABANE - The National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) has declared a malaria outbreak in the Sidvwashini area of Northern Hhohho and surrounding locations at Masutaneni, Nya-katfo, and Ngonini.

Simon Kunene, NMCP programme manager, said the epidemic was discovered by malaria surveillance agents who were screening and testing residents in the community after a case was reported by Bhalekane Nazarene Clinic. The country defines a malaria outbreak, or epidemic, as five or more locally transmitted cases in a community.

Since Tuesday, over 20 malaria cases have been detected in the area through community screening and have been referred for treat-ment to the local health facility...
