Swine flu: Panaji school to remain shut for 7 days

Panaji, Sep 24 (PTI) Goa Education Department today ordered a seven day closure of a Panaji-based school after two of its students were found affected with H1N1 virus, while three others were suspected to be suffering from the disease.

"We ordered the school not to hold classes as a precautionary measure this evening. The health department had advised for the action," state Education Director Celsa Pinto told PTI here tonight.

People's High School, a renowned educational institution in the state located in Panaji, detected two confirmed swine flu cases involving its fifth standard students.

"Three more suspected H1N1 cases were found including a fifth standard student and two pupils of ninth standard," Dr Jose de Sa, nodal officer for swine flu monitoring programme, said.

He stated that the health department had asked the education department to order the school the closure to avoid further spread of the virus.
