Swine flu rate falls again

The swine flu rate is continuing to fall, with the latest rate in the community now at 12.2 per 100,000 population.

This compares to a figure of 16.6 per 100,000 population reported last week. No further deaths have been reported, and the mortality total remains at 23.

The number of hospitalised cases of confirmed pandemic (H1N1) 2009 is continuing to decrease.

According to the Department of Health, 1,058 cases of confirmed H1N1 infection have been hospitalised since the start of the outbreak last year and six patients currently remain in intensive care units.

No new cases were admitted to ICU in the past week.

Slight drop in swine flu rate

The rate of swine flu in the community is continuing to drop, with the latest figure showing a rate of 6.2 per 100,000 population.

This is a slight decrease from the figure of 6.8 reported last week.

No additional deaths from swine flu have been reported since mid-December.

The Department of Health and the HSE are reminding people that the swine flu vaccine is being made available to the general population through HSE Clinics nationwide.

Anyone in the specifically-targeted patient groups (eg pregnant women, those with long-term illnesses, the elderly) who has not yet been vaccinated is advised to come to a HSE clinic for their vaccine as soon as possible.

In addition, any members of the general public who have not yet received the vaccine may now come to a HSE clinic for swine flu vaccine.

You can arrange to visit a HSE vaccine clinic by making an appointment for a vaccination on www.swineflu.ie or by contacting the HSE information line on 1850 24 1850.
