On November 30, 2010, the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) called the 91st conference to review 45 petitions requesting compensation for individuals thought to be injured by the pandemic influenza A (H1N1). According to the report released by VICP, a link between the H1N1 vaccine and four cases couldn?t be excluded: three of the cases were reimbursed NT$70,000 and one of the cases was not reimbursed because it did not qualify for reimbursement, while the other forty-one cases were deemed not associated with the pandemic influenza A (H1N1) vaccine: 9 cases were reimbursed NT$5,000-50,000 for medical charges and examination fees imposed to determine the link between the case and the H1N1 vaccine.
As of December 6, 2010, VICP has received a total of 542 claims requesting compensation for individuals thought to be injured by the H1N1 vaccine. Thus far, VICP has completed reviewing 510 petitions. An association is confirmed in three cases while an association cannot be excluded in 71 cases. 68 cases were ruled compensable, while the other 436 cases were ruled non-compensable. 111 cases were respectively reimbursed NT$5,000~ NT$100,000 for medical charges and examination fees imposed to determine the link between the case and the H1N1 vaccine and 22 cases were reimbursed for performing autopsy. The total amount of reimbursement made so far is NT$ 10,220, 000. A total of 47 suspected vaccine-related deaths were filed for compensation, and all have been reviewed and ruled non-compensable.
