Influenza activity in Taiwan peaked at week 2. Seasonal influenza virus type B is predominant in the community.
Of the 217 specimens tested during week 6, 2012, 72 (33.2%) were positive for influenza viruses, 59 (27.2%) were positive for influenza B viruses, 7 (3.2%) were positive for influenza AH3 viruses, 6 (2.8%) were positive for pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus.
There were 50 new complicated influenza infections and no report of death from complicated influenza infection during week 8. Since July 1, 2011, 1173 complicated influenza infections have been confirmed, including 930 cases from influenza B virus infection, 185 cases from influenza A virus infection, 45 cases from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 13 cases due to un-typed influenza A virus infection. 395 cases of complicated influenza infections received the intensive care. Since July 1, 2011, there
have been 72 reports of death from complicated influenza infection; 57 from the seasonal influenza B strain, 13 from the seasonal H3N2 strain, 1 from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 1 from the un-typed influenza A virus, respectively.

The number of deaths related to pneumonia and influenza during week 7 was 361, which was below the number of the previous week (384 deaths).
The rate of outpatient visits for influenza-like illness is 1.68%, a 2.3% decrease compared with the rate of previous week (1.72%).
The rate of emergency room visits for ILI is 12.97%, a 4.8 % decrease compared with the rate of previous week (13.62%).

Week 9 (Feb. 26? Mar. 3, 2012)
Influenza activity in Taiwan peaked at week 2. Seasonal influenza virus type B is predominant in the community.
Of the 222 specimens tested during week 7, 2012, 65 (29%) were positive for influenza viruses, 48 (22%) were positive for influenza B viruses, 14 (6%) were positive for influenza AH3 viruses, 3 (1%) were positive for pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus.
There were 55 new complicated influenza infections and 3 reports of death from complicated influenza infection during week 9. Since July 1, 2011, 1228 complicated influenza infections have been confirmed, including 969 cases from influenza B virus infection, 198 cases from influenza A virus infection, 46 cases from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 15 cases due to un-typed influenza A virus infection. 409 cases of complicated influenza infections received the intensive care. Since July 1, 2011, there have been 75 reports of death from complicated influenza infection; 60 from the seasonal influenza B strain, 13 from the seasonal H3N2 strain, 1 from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 1 from the un-typed influenza A virus, respectively.

Since July 1, 2011, 1267 complicated influenza infections have been confirmed, including 990 cases from influenza B virus infection, 208 cases from influenza A virus infection, 52 cases from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 17 cases due to un-typed influenza A virus infection. 422 cases of complicated influenza infections received the intensive care. Week 23:
Influenza activity in Taiwan peaked at week 2. Seasonal influenza virus type AH3 is predominant in the community.

Of the 297 specimens tested during week 21, 2012, 30 (10%) were positive for influenza viruses, 23 (7.7%) were positive for influenza AH3 virus, 4 (1.3%) were positive for pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus, 3 (1%) was positive for influenza B virus.

There were 18 new complicated influenza infections during week 23. Since July 1, 2011, 1550 complicated influenza infections have been confirmed, including 1033 cases from influenza B virus infection, 410 cases from influenza AH3 (H3N2) virus infection, 79 cases from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 28 cases due to un-typed influenza A virus infection. 521 cases of complicated influenza infections received the intensive care. Since July 1, 2011, there have been 136 reports of death from complicated influenza infection; 102 from the seasonal influenza B strain, 26 from the seasonal H3N2 strain, 6 from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 2 from the un-typed influenza A virus, respectively.

The number of deaths related to pneumonia and influenza during week 22 was 267, which was above the number of the previous week (232 deaths).

There were 38 new complicated influenza infections during week 24. Since July 1, 2011, 1588 complicated influenza infections have been confirmed, including 1033 cases from influenza B virus infection, 443 cases from influenza AH3 (H3N2) virus infection, 80 cases from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 32 cases due to un-typed influenza A virus infection. 533 cases of complicated influenza infections received the intensive care. Since July 1, 2011, there have been 136 reports of death from complicated influenza infection; 102 from the seasonal influenza B strain, 26 from the seasonal H3N2 strain, 6 from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 2 from the un-typed influenza A virus, respectively.
