With recent heavy rain in the south, the Department of Health is concerned that cases of dengue fever will hit 200.
The number was only 202 for the whole of last year. The officials said the number of dengue fever cases has increased rapidly in the south since summer, and that recent heavy rain had not helped the situation -- puddles provide an ideal breeding ground for the mosquitoes that carry the disease.
The department's Center for Disease Control estimated that the number of locally contracted dengue fever cases increased to 139 since summer, up 23 cases from last week.
