H1N1 virus hotspots indentified in city


COIMBATORE: The health department has identified H1N1 virus hotspots in the city and are focusing their prevention methods on these localities for the past few days. However, the department said residents of those areas have no reason to worry as there are no virus clusters in the locality.

"Places where five or more people have been reported with H1N1 have been identified as hotspots. But these five people have not contracted the virus from each other or from the same locality, but from various other sources," said a health officer.

Most patients with H1N1 have travel history to disease-affected areas


Going by statistics, the urban part of the district accounted for 12 cases while two cases were reported in rural areas of Trichy since January this year. Another cover-up bid alleged in H1N1 death

The family of a man who died at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) recently has alleged that the reason behind the death was being concealed. Though no post-mortem was carried out on the woman?s body, health officials said the symptoms manifested by the deceased were that of swine flu. The body was brought to her hometown in Vedaranyam taluk by relatives and last rites were performed on Tuesday night, sources said.
Jayalakshmi (25), a resident of Naluvedapathy village and the wife of an army man, was eight months pregnant, said sources. According to relatives, she developed fever on May 26 while she was at her relative?s place in Velankanni town. When the fever failed to subside, she was rushed to a local clinic in Nagapattinam, from where she was referred to the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital on May 30.

The latest case of swine flu death was recorded on Saturday in Chennai when a 47-year-old woman from Villivakkam succumbed at a private hospital.
