MADURAI: The swine flu death toll at the GRH in Madurai increased to seven after a one-year-old infant succumbed on Saturday night. With this the has increased to seven. According to hospital sources, one-year-old M Sakthivel, a resident of Athithnanendal under Thiruchuli taluk in Virudhunagar district, was suffering from fever since last week.

He was admitted to Government Rajaji Hospitala couple of days ago. The infant later tested positive for swine flu virus and was put on ventilator support. However, Sakthivel?s condition deteriorated and he succumbed on Saturday night.

Coimbatore: A teenage girl and a man, undergoing treatment for swine flu, died at the government hospital in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore, hospital sources said Wednesday.
32-year old Kathirvel died in the early hours of Wednesday while Subashree, 14, died late Tuesday night, they said.
Both were undergoing treatment for H1N1 flu.
COMMENT
Two others, including a 57-year old man, being treated for 'mysterious' fever also died, the hospital sources added.

Hospital authorities say blame parents for admitting their kids late
An infant and a 12-year-old reportedly died of swine flu at the government hospital in Dindigul.

Giving details, doctors said Rangaraj and Kavita of Gujiliamparai near here worked in Tirupur district. The couple, along with their one-year-old son Sriram, came here for Deepavali holidays.

As the infant was unwell, the couple took him to the government hospital, where doctors told them that he tested positive for swine flu. Since they were dissatisfied with the treatment, they got the child discharged against medical advice and admitted him in a private hospital.

Sources in the Department of Public Health said 50-year-old Zakkariah of Thiruvithancode Puthuppalli, who was suffering from high fever, was admitted to a private hospital near his house. Tests suggested that he was carrying H1N1 virus causing swine flu and he was shifted to another private hospital in Nagercoil where he died on Wednesday night.

Similarly, Gayatri (28) from Gandhimanagar in the city was undergoing treatment for fever in a private hospital here for the last few days, where she was tested H1N1 positive and admitted to the Government Hospital here.However, she died early on Friday, hospital sources said.Separately, Angay (55) of Atthanur in Namakkal district was undergoing treatment for H1N1 at Salem Government Hospital. She died this morning without responding to treatment.

Two women, one in Salem and another at Porur in Chennai, succumbed to fever on Friday.


Coimbatore: In the Salem case, an 85-year-old woman from Namakkal, who tested positive to swine flu, died at the Salem government hospital on Friday.

The victim was identified as Akkayi from Athanur in Namakkal. She was down with severe fever over the last few days and was admitted to Salem Government Hospital. The woman?s condition deteriorated and she succumbed to the flu on Friday morning.

Five die of H1N1 across TN, infections on the rise


Five people, including a two-year-old girl, who tested positive for H1N1 infection died across Tamil Nadu on Thursday and Friday, even as the number of people getting admitted to hospitals with symptoms of the flu continued to go up.
Four women ? two from Madurai and one each from Theni and Dindigul districts ? died on Thursday and Friday While three of them underwent treatment in the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai, one patient died in the Theni government hospital.
The dead were identified as Lakshmi, 51, from Thiruvedagam; Subbulakshmi, 61, from Pandian Nagar in Tirumanglam in Madurai district; Jeevitha, 19, from Natham in Dindigul district; and K Malliga, 61, from Keelodai street in Andiapatti in Theni.
In GRH alone, 17 people, including four children, who tested positive for H1N1 influenza are being treated.

Meanwhile, S Angayee, 54, from Namkkal who was admitted to the Salem Government Super Specialty Hospital with H1N1 symptoms died early on Friday.

tetano - I think S Angayee and Akkayi and Angay may all be the same person in spite of the different ages and spellings. All come from Namakkal and all died in Salem hospital on Friday morning. - Ro

MADURAI/THENI/VIRUDHUNAGAR: Swine flu death toll shot up to 12 at Government Rajaji Hospital, with the death of a 11-year-old boy on Friday. According to the hospital sources, Dharanidharan (11), a resident of Nagamalai Pudukottai in Madurai district, was admitted to the hospital a few days ago with symptoms of swine flu.

Later, he tested positive for the influenza virus, and on Friday afternoon, he succumbed. Five persons have died in the past three days, including three women who died on Thursday alone.

Three persons from Kanniyakumari district, who had been admitted to different hospitals with suspected symptoms of swine flu, died in 24 hours since Sunday night.

However, officials of the Department of Public Health confirmed swine flu as the cause of death of only one patient. ?In the other two cases, we are yet to get diagnosis reports,? they said.

6th grade student Shakti Kapilan, who was suffering from swine flu in the Tudu Duduki Government Hospital, died sympatheticly.

In Tamil Nadu, the impact of viral fever, swine flu and dengue fever has increased. Last year, 3,700 people were affected by dengue and swine flu in Tamil Nadu and 1,700 people were affected this year. So far 17 people have died, according to the Public Health Department. At present, more than 160 people are suffering from viral fever in Thoothukudi state medical college.

Surekibilan, son of the building worker of the turquoise Kurunji, is studying the sixth grade. The fever has been reported on the last 6th. Immediately, he was taken to a nearby private hospital. He was admitted to the Thoothukudi Government Hospital on December 9th due to increased fever.


Following the flu increase, he was shifted to the Emergency Department yesterday. Doctors have said that the baby has a swine flu in the serial tests. Following this, he was seriously treated and the boy had died due to this morning.

In the past 10 days, there has been no action taken by the corporation officials repeatedly urging the removal of coconut water in the Kurinji nagar area. The production of mosquitoes has also increased. At present, people in the area blame the blistering powder to remove the waste water discharge in the town of Kurinji.

MADURAI/ COIMBATORE: A 12-year-old boy from Virudhunagar district succumbed to swine flu at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) on Sunday, taking the death toll to 13.

The deceased, A Adhi Shankar (12), was a resident of Karuppasamy Nagar in Virudhunagar. The child had cerebral palsy, added hospital sources. He was initially treated at the government hospital in Virudhunagar and later shifted to a private hospital here in Madurai.

Later, he tested positive for swine flu at the GRH, where he was admitted to the quarantine H1N1 ward for treatment on November 7. However, he developing complications and succumbed to the influenza virus on Sunday.

Five more H1N1 deaths in TN over two days

Five more people have succumbed to the H1N1 virus in Coimbatore and Madurai districts in Tamil Nadu. Over 50 cases reportedly test positive for H1N1 on a weekly basis.
According to one report in the Times of India, three of these deaths occurred at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. All three died hours away after being admitted, even as they were shifted from private hospitals at the last minute, reported the paper.
Three patients-- Subramaniam, Jaganathan and Selvam-- passed away on Monday and Tuesday after failing to respond to treatment. Subramaniam, 56, die an hour after being admitted to the hospital. He was referred by a private hospital at 4 pm on Monday evening. Jaganathan, 44, while not diagnosed positive for H1N1 showed symptoms of the disease. He died on Tuesday following a fever and respiratory failure. Selvam, 54, the third patient who died at the hospital over the past two days, also showed symptoms of the disease.
In Madurai, two people-- Joseph, 60 from Virudhunagar and P Jeeva, 34, from Theni-- died in private hospitals. While Joseph was referred from one private hospital to another, Jeeva had first been diagnosed with H1N1 at the Theni Medical College after ten days of fever. He was then taken to a private hospital where he passed away on Tuesday.

Three H1N1 deaths recorded in GH

Coimbatore: Three people died of H1N1 and two due to viral fever at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital here since Wednesday.
According to hospital sources, Padmavathy, 70, of Gudalur, was admitted to GH on Tuesday after she was diagnosed with H1N1 in a private hospital. She died on Thursday. Similarly, Sivarajan, 52, of Kovil Medu, passed away on Thursday due to the virus. Mochammal, 67, also died of the H1N1 virus on Wednesday.
All the three patients were treated at private hospitals before being shifted to the government hospital, when their condition became critical. They died less than 48 hours after being admitted in the hospital.
Dikki, 20, from Bihar, died of viral fever at the CMCH on Thursday. He was working as a labourer in the city.

Woman dies of swine flu in Theni district of Tamil Nadu


HENI/THOOTHUKUDI : A 60-year-old from Munnar succumbed to swine flu at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kanavilakku, on Wednesday. Sources in the hospital said that the patient, Rajamani, was admitted with high fever on November 8. The woman was also a diabetic. She was admitted to the isolated ward, where she died. Meanwhile, the death of a 13-year-old boy at Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital on Wednesday has taken the death toll to three in the district. According to sources, Sakthi Kapil (13), the deceased also had cerebral palsy. He was treated for fever at a private hospital in Toovipuram as an outpatient for few days before being admitted to Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital on November 9, where he tested positive for swine flu and was being administered treatment at a quarantine ward. However, he succumbed to the virus on Tuesday night, sources added.

[h=2]Cause of death[/h] As on Sunday, 45 persons were undergoing treatment for A(H1N1) influenza and five persons for dengue at CMCH. CMCH authorities did not comment whether the three persons tested positive for A(H1N1) influenza and one for dengue and did not confirm the cause of death.

A woman, Poongothai, 62, wife, of Sivapandian of Rayavelur near Andipatti in Theni had been suffering from fever for the past few days
she tested positive for H1N1 and was admitted to a private hospital in Madurai, where she succumbed on Sunday morning.
