VISAKHAPATNAM: Even as swine flu cases continued to flow into city hospitals with a 20-year-old pregnant woman being admitted on Monday night, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday held a review meeting with the superintendents of government hospitals, where swine flu cases are being treated, and emphasised on the need to prevent further spread of the dreaded H1N1 virus by tracking the source of infection and saving patients through early treatment.

5-year-old teacher Swami Raju from Punganur town in Chittoor district, died of swine flu while undergoing treatment St. John?s Hospital in Benguluru, on Tuesday. His family members reported the death to the district medical and health officials. A teacher at the government upper primary school at Malenattam village of Ramasamudram mandal of Madanapalle division, he fell ill in January first week. He reportedly sought treatment from some quacks in town, only to approach the area hospital a week later when his condition deteriorated. The doctors there referred him to Benguluru, where he died today. Ongole Staff Reporter adds: Three persons including a six-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy were hospitalised in Ongole, DM&HO J. Yasmin said on Tuesday. The third is a 68-year-old woman. A month-old infant from Chirala also tested positive and was undergoing treatment at a corporate hospital in Hyderabad. Hyderabad Special Correspondent adds: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday directed health officials to submit a report within 24 hours.

[h=1]H1N1 toll touches 51[/h] A 51-year-old male patient from Ameerpet died of complications due to swine flu at Gandhi Hospital on Thursdayt, taking the death toll to 51 in Telangana State. Meanwhile, the number of swine flu positive cases continued to rise and the total positive cases touched 719 during January alone.
At Gandhi Hospital, 60 patients are admitted, out of which 26 have tested H1N1 positive while swab sample results of 34 others are expected to be released soon. At present, apart from adults, four H1N1 positive children are also admitted. The special swine flu outpatient clinic has also received 48 admissions with symptoms of swine flu.
At Fever Hospital, 24 H1N1 positive cases were admitted. On Thursday, six persons were discharged and 18 new patients were admitted. The virology laboratory at Fever Hospital tests 30 swab samples for H1N1 daily.

University of Hyderabad student succumbs to swine flu

HYDERABAD: A post doctoral fellow of the University of Hyderabad succumbed to swine flu while undergoing treatment in a private hospital near Serilingampally on Friday.

Sudha Nirmala, a student of Advanced Centre for Research in High Energy Materials, had developed symptoms of the flu about 10 days ago. However, she had not consulted resident physicians in the university health centre, varsity authorities said.

With Sudha's death, the official H1N1 toll rose to 42 in Telangana since January 1.

Swine flu has claimed two more lives in Telangana taking the number of deaths due to the H1N1 virus this year to 41, the state government said today. "From January 1 to February 5, 2,212 samples were tested, of which 738 were found to be positive," an official release said. It said 89 samples were tested on Thursday and 20 were found positive for the H1N1 virus.
The state government has said that enough medicines are available at the hospitals.

HYDERABAD: A 32-year-old woman from Nalgonda, who had tested positive for swine flu, died at Gandhi Hospital on Sunday. Incidentally, the victim had suffered a miscarriage on Saturday. With this, the total number of deaths due to H1N1 virus rose to 43 in Telangana this year. Also, 35 people tested positive for swine flu on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 850 since January 1.

Another woman from Medak district also died in Gandhi Hospital on Sunday. The swine flu death toll has now risen to 53 in TS this year.

HYDERABAD: A 60-year-old male from Godavari Khani in Karimnagar is the latest to join the official swine flu death toll even as the Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM) found a staggering 49 people tested positive out of 125 swab samples it tested on Monday. Out of 49, Telangana reported 44 positive cases while the remaining five hail from Andhra Pradesh.

Swine flu kills five in one day in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Five people, including a 27-year-old woman from Bidar in Karnataka, succumbed to swine flu at a city hospital on Thursday even as the number of positive cases since January 1 crossed 1,000.

While the Karnataka woman died in Gandhi Hospital, the other four victims include a 39-year-old man from Azampura, a 72-year-old from Issar Nagar, Nizamabad, a 30-year-old woman from Ranga Reddy and a 32-year-old female from the city.

Hyderabad: Three fresh swine flu deaths and 23 positive cases have been reported in Telangana, a bulletin on the viral disease issued by the state government said here Friday.


"From January 1 till February 12, 2,938 samples have been tested out of which 969 were found to be positive and number of deaths because of other complications and swine flu are 45," the bulletin said.

According to the bulletin issued yesterday, 42 deaths had been reported till February 11.

It said 53 samples were tested yesterday and 23 were found to be positive for the virus.

1 death, 37 fresh swine flu cases in Telangana

Hyderabad: A fresh swine flu death and 37positive cases have been reported in Telangana, where fatalities from the disease inched closer to the 50 mark.

"In the current year (from January 1 till February13), 3,045 samples were tested, of which 1,006 found to be positive and number of deaths because of swine flu and other complications stood at 46," a bulletin on swine flu issued by the State Government said on Saturday.

[h=1]30 fresh cases of swine flu in Telangana, toll 46[/h] Hyderabad, Feb 18: Thirty fresh cases of swine flu have been reported in Telangana, where 46 people have succumbed to the H1N1 virus this year so far.
"In the current year from January 1 till February 17, 3469 samples have been tested, out of which 1128 found to be positive and number of deaths because of other complications and swine flu are 46," a bulletin on swine flu said here today.
It said 124 samples were tested yesterday and 30 have been found positive for the virus. The number of positive cases reported in the last six days (up to February 17) is showing a decline in intensity.
