BRASILIA - The deaths of ten children and adults in Xavante villages in the municipality of Mato Grosso Campinápolis led the Special Indigenous Health (SESA), the Ministry of Health to send a technical team to the city, located over 600 km of Cuiabá. The group will assess the health conditions and medical care provided to indigenous community in the region.
According to the municipal secretary of Health, John Ailton Barbosa, the ten children and adults died of ethnicity in the first two weeks of the year. He said the deaths occurred due to pneumonia, dehydration, malnutrition and other diseases.
Still according to Barbosa, eight children were admitted to the hospital in Bar Herons - referral center in the region. In 2010, 60 children - 34 of them with up to 1 year - died from respiratory diseases and infections, among others.
- Many come with advanced illness and die - Barbosa said.
The table, he added, is even more serious because of lack of personnel and vehicles to provide care to ethnicity.
After disclosure of the deaths, the ministry announced that an agreement was signed for £ 2.07 million with the Organization Our Tribe (ONT) to hire 104 professionals, who will join the current 400 employees. Other measures will be buying six cars and the repair of 15 vehicles stopped for lack of repair.
The ministry also sent 16 Campinápolis servers. They will organize the service in the House of the Indian Health in the city and also the towns of Bar and the Herons of Nova. In addition, establish a network of services with the municipal and state of health to prevent mortality in tribes. According to Sheshai, our staff will be in the region until the issue is resolved, with the relay team every 15 days.
- I hope to succeed. If it materializes, will be very good - said Barbosa.
