I. Avian Influenza in human situation 2006

Since January 1, 2006 to August 23, 2006, the Bureau of Epidemiology has received reports of influenza or pneumonia cases in Avian Influenza Surveillance Network from the Provincial Health Offices and Disease Prevention and Control Regional Offices. The investigation and analysis were summarized as follows:

  [*]Cumulative number of patients under surveillance are 4,276 cases 71 provinces. Today reports are 51 cases; Twelve cases from Sukho Thai, 6 from Phitsa Nulok, 5 from Suphanburi, 4 from Lamphun, 3 each from Amnatcharoen and Phichit, 2 each from Prathum thani, Kanchanaburi, Chiang Mai, Phetchabun, Chai Nat, Nakhonsawan and Kampaeng Phet, and 1 each from Chaiyaphum, Ranong, Bangkok metropolis and Samut Prakan.
  [*]Confirmed human case of avian influenza 2006 = 2 cases, with 2 death cases.<o>
  </o><o>· The first death case, reported from Phichit province, Tabklo district is 17 years old male. He had onset on July 15, 2006 and died on July 24, 2006.
  · The second death case, reported from Uthai Thani province, Sawang Arom district is 27 years old male. He had onset on July 24, 2006 and died on August 3, 2006.</o>
  [*]There are 74 suspect cases reported, of which waiting for laboratory result.

Conclusion:
· In 2005, there are 5 confirmed human cases of avian influenza, with 2 death cases.
· In 2006, there are 2 confirmed human dead cases of avian influenza.

If many of these people have been treated with Tammie flu, isn't it possible that they could test negative?

As of August 31, the Bureau of Epidemiology, Department of Diseases Control, Ministry of Public Health in Thailand is waiting for H5N1 test results on 70 cases; that is 4 fewer cases than on August 23, 2006 (74, see above). I believe that some of these are different cases than those counted on August 23rd. The important point is that the number of suspected and tested individuals has not skyrocketed in the past 10 days.​
