The Egyptian Health Ministry reported on Thursday the 28th human death from bird flu in the country.

A woman aged 20, from Beni Suef, about 90 kilometres south of Cairo died as a result of breathing failure after she was diagnosed to have contracted bird flu.

The new death brought the total number of deaths in Egypt from bird flu to 28 cases since the outbreak of the flu in 2006.

The case is the first casualty in 2010.

The Ministry last Wednesday also announced that a three-year old child from Assiut Governorate, about 500km from Cairo, was diagnosed as suffering from fever, cough, running nose, was later tested positive of bird flu.
