Woman dies of swine flu in Pondy

Puducherry, Sept 27 (PTI) A 52-year-old woman has died of swine flu at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) here, the first influenza fatality in the Union Territory.

The woman from Kancheepuram district in neighbouring Tamil Nadu was admitted to the institute on September 25 "in a very bad condition," JIPMER Director Dr K S V K Subba Rao told PTI today.

She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and died yesterday. Her swab reports, received after her death, tested positive for H1N1 virus, he said.

Puducherry, Oct 5 (PTI) The swine flu toll in Puducherry has gone up to three with a 26-year-old man succumbing to the virus today.

The patient hailing from Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu was admitted to the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research on Saturday with fever and tested positive for H1NI influenza, Medical Superintendent of JIPMER A K Das told PTI.

Two persons including a woman had succumbed to swine flu last week.

PUDUCHERRY/NAGERCOIL: Two persons died of A(H1N1) flu in the State on Monday.

A 26-year-old youth from Cuddalore fell victim to the virus at the JIPMER in Puducherry.

Arun Prasad of Nethaji Nagar in Vadalur taluk, was admitted at 2.30 a.m. on Sunday with pneumonia. ?His samples were tested on Sunday and were found to be A(H1N1) positive. His condition worsened rapidly on Monday afternoon and he died.?

A 68-year-old person died of swine flu at Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital at Asaripallam.

Puducherry, Oct 23 (PTI) One more person succumbed to swine flu here today, pushing up the toll due to the pandemic to four in the city.

A 31-year-old man, hailing from Ariyalur in Tamil Nadu, was admitted to the Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in a serious condition two days ago.

He tested positive for the virus and succumbed today, an official at the institute said.

Three persons, including a JIPMER student, are undergoing treatment in the isolation ward after testing positive for the virus, he added.

Cuddalore resident dies of A(H1N1)

PUDUCHERRY: A resident of Cuddalore, who was admitted to a private medical college on Saturday, died on Sunday evening after being diagnosed with myocarditis and tested positive for A(H1N1) influenza. The man, aged above 40 years, was admitted to the hospital with myocarditis and had respiratory problems. He was put on ventilator.

The swab was sent to Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) and tested positive for the flu on Sunday, officials said.

Hospital authorities said myocarditis could have been a secondary complication of H1N1 flu.

Puducherry, Oct 30 (PTI) One more person has succumbed to swine flu here, pushing up the toll due to the pandemic to five in the city.

A 24-year old MBA student Dilip, hailing from Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu was admitted to Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) three days ago in a serious condition and died yesterday, hospital Director Dr K S V K Subba Rao told PTI today.

All the five swine flu fatal victims at the JIPMER hailed from Tamil Nadu.

Officials said two more persons were undergoing treatment at the hospital for suspected swine flu. One of them was on ventilator support although he has tested negative for the H1N1 virus.

Puducherry, Oct 31 (PTI) A 25-year-old woman today died of swine flu here, taking the toll due to the pandemic in the Union Territory to six, health officials said.

The woman from Villupuram in neighbouring Tamil Nadu was admitted to the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) here on October 17, a top official of the institute said.

"Her condition became complicated and critical with respiratory distress," he said.

The six -- four men and two women-- who had succumbed to swine flu were from neighbouring districts of Tamil Nadu

He was admitted to Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research on Wednesday in a serious condition. He was put on ventilator and his sample tested positive for the flu, according to health authorities.

Meanwhile, two men ? from Puducherry and Ulundurpet in Tamil Nadu ? have tested positive for the flu on Friday.

Puducherry, Nov 22 (PTI) A 14-year-old boy died of swine flu at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) here, taking the toll due to the H1N1 influenza in the union territory to seven.

The boy, from Neyveli in Tamil Nadu, was admitted to the hospital on November 19 and died yesterday, hospital sources said.

Two patients who tested positive for the flu are presently undergoing treatment at the hospital, they said.
