One was shifted to a government hospital in the terminal stage, but died. According to details provided by the corporation, Rajesh Verma, 30, resident of Pungam area, started showing health complications on September 21.

Initially, he was treated at Gupta Hospital in Parvat Patia area before being shifted to Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) in a critical condition on September 25.

Gupta Hospital authorities have been issued a show-cause notice as to why the patient was not referred to the authorized hospital for swine flu treatment at the initial stage, due to which he succumbed to the deadly disease on Saturday.

Similarly, another 24-year-old male swine flu patient was admitted to Mahavir Hospital on Wednesday. Earlier, he was being treated at Ayush Hospital in Lal Darwaja. After his condition worsened in the last few days, he was transferred in a critical condition to Mahavir Hospital.

Ayush Hospital has also been issued a notice. The two hospitals have been given a week to reply to the notices.

Swine flu death: notice to hospital

VISAKHAPATNAM: A private hospital in Krishna Nagar area here has been served a notice to explain why it has discharged a swine flu patient even after he was on the ventilator and why he was not treated, District Medical and Health Officer J. Sarojini said here on Tuesday.

The hospital discharged the patient, a Deputy General Manager of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant a few days ago and he died a few hours after being admitted in the Government Hospital for Chest Diseases. He was earlier in the Chest Hospital but his family members and relatives got him discharged and took him to the private hospital but the hospital management had reportedly refused to treat him after swine flu was confirmed. He was then brought back to the Chest Hospital.

Dr. Sarojini said the hospital was expected to give its reply in a few days.

Twenty one persons, including the wife and daughter of the deceased VSP official and his close relatives were being given swine flu medicines.

Some of his colleagues were also being treated. The Visteel General Hospital was given swine flu medicines.

Meanwhile, three suspected cases of swine flu were being treated at the Government Hospital for Chest Diseases, and awareness campaign is being stepped up in the district.

Ten resource persons have been trained and they would conduct awareness programmes in 27 Government departments. Doctors of hospitals of local PSUs and swine flu screening centres would conduct awareness programmes in their respective organisations and other places.

The District Educational Officer arranged a meeting of Mandal Educational Officers on Tuesday during which the DMHO conducted an awareness campaign. The MEOs in turn would conduct awareness camps for teachers of their respective schools. A meeting with hostel welfare officers of all the welfare hostels in the district was arranged by the DRDA on Wednesday.
