THE UK's death toll has increased by 684 to 3,645 in the last 24 hours, overtaking China's official tally.

UK Lockdown measures could be lifted by the end of May or earlier according to a top PM adviser.

China has recorded 3,322 deaths to date, but have been accused of fixing numbers.

Confirmed cases in the UK have also jumped to 38,168 - up 4,450 from yesterday's total of 33,718.

The number of people testing positive for Covid-19 has been rising by an average of 17 per cent per day - suggesting we are no closer to the "curve" flattening.

A further eight people in Northern Ireland have died from Coronavirus, bringing the death toll here to 56.

As of 9.50am this morning, the Public Health Agency say a further 94 positive cases have been identified bringing the total number of confirmed cases here to 998.

Eight more people who had tested positive for Covid-19 have died in Northern Ireland, bringing the total to 56.

There are currently 998 positive cases, a rise of 94 since Friday.

The Department of Health said 8,034 tests have now been carried out here.

A surge in cases is expected between 6 April and 20 April.

Testing of healthcare staff began at the SSE Arena in Belfast on Saturday.

Kits from the Northern Ireland-based diagnostic company Randox will be used for testing.

Across the United Kingdom, 4,313 people with the virus have now died, with 708 deaths reported on Saturday. There are 41,903 confirmed cases.

British health authorities announced on Saturday that the U.K.-wide death toll from coronavirus rose by 708 over the last 24 hours, the record rise so far.

The Department of Health announced: “As of 9am 4 April, a total of 183,190 people have been tested of which 41,903 tested positive.

“As of 5pm on 3 April, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 4,313 have sadly died.”

The UK's coronavirus death toll has soared to 15,538 - the fifth highest total in the world behind the US, Italy, Spain and France.

Government ministers are said to be torn over lifting the lockdown in May or extending it until summer.

It comes as PPE supplies at some hospitals could run out this weekend and staff fighting coronavirus have been asked to work without gowns due to the shortage.

Hospitals have been instructed to ration oxygen due to the pressure on supplies from Covid-19 patients, it is reported.

Scientists are hopeful that a million doses of a vaccine for the new coronavirus could be available by September as the first human trials of a jab, developed at the University of Oxford, are set to begin next week.
