Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1,128 total

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1037 total

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1037 total

I think they may have stopped counting. No new numbers have been released for five days, and the MOH has continued to release other reports (such as counts of hypothermia cases) and various documents on drug issues and heart care.

Perhaps they feel the outbreak is winding down, or perhaps they don't trust their estimates of ARI cases anymore.

The third possibility is that there is an escalation in mortalities, and they are consulting as to how to handle such information - bottom line is that we just dont know anything, and cannot make any assumptions until there is data. Unitl they release data, it is an open book.

Sanitary-Epidemiological Service of Ukraine outlined steps to improve work
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
30.01.2010

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine held a meeting chaired by First Deputy Minister of Health, the chief state sanitary doctor of Ukraine Alexander Bilovol. The meeting was chief sanitary doctor of all regions, Crimea, Kyiv and Sevastopol, heads of structural departments of Health, the Central leadership of EUFOR, the Centers immunobiological preparations of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections.

The meeting discussed the experience gained by the service during the current epidemic season, made findings, which should focus on the future.

Alexander Bilovol has advanced analysis features of this year's epidemic season and noted that its distinctive feature is the simultaneous circulation of new seasonal and pandemic influenza virus strains, raising the intensity of the epidemic, which is the highest in recent years.

In addition, noted that in the past few seasons exceeded the epidemic threshold recorded in separate single week only in some regions, then this season, the epidemic threshold of a greater or lesser intensity and duration perevyschuvalysya in all areas of Crimea, cities Kyiv and Sevastopol.

Analysis of epidemic situation showed that the main characteristics of the epidemic process in Ukraine were similar with other countries and almost the same with Eastern Europe.

"Another feature was an unprecedentedly harsh restrictive measures, which we were forced to apply in view of the clinical picture of disease course, lack of population immunity to new strains of disease and the inability to use specific measures Immunization" - the chief sanitary doctor, adding that In his opinion, the measures taken were entirely justified and appropriate situation. They got the support of the Government, got a positive assessment of international medical organizations and found complete understanding in society. Index - measures have become effective, the epidemic situation in the country stabilized.

As stated at the meeting in Ukraine since the beginning of the epidemic rise in the incidence of influenza and ARI registered 4 508 596 cases of influenza and acute respiratory infections. According to the settlement completed treatment in the 4 244 619 patients. Continues to sicken about 255 000 people. For the entire period of hospital - 267 355 patients. Discharged from hospitals 235 759 patients. At the hospital is 31 596 patients.
Died of complications - 1 045 persons.

Methods recommended by WHO, the selected samples for analysis in 3533 persons. Completed analysis of samples from 1541 people, including from the dead - 606. 296. 672 laboratory confirmed cases of pandemic influenza A H1N1 California, included of the deads - 296. According to the European Institute for Disease Control in the world confirmed 14 378 deaths by Pandemic Influenza. In the European Union recorded 2 292 confirmed deaths.

However, as noted by Alexander Bilovol is projected as international experts and local scientists, Ukrainian doctors must be ready for the second wave of the epidemic rise.

Particular attention is paid to Mr. Bilovol qualitative preparation of vaccines against pandemic influenza. It is about determining the needs of pandemic vaccine in each region, a clear identification of risk groups to be vaktsynuvatysya primarily conduct the health education work, checking the readiness of medical facilities and personnel. In this regard, a great responsibility for the execution of tasks is defined in local government and specifically to the chief sanitary doctor. Alexander Bilovol noted that substandard work in any given area can be spot on all of the health service, so to prevent such a situation, it was determined number of steps. In particular, the major public health physicians from different regions called responsible attitude toward the implementation of relevant resolutions of the main state sanitary doctor of Ukraine and to ensure monitoring of vaccination against influenza in regions with weekly reporting to the Central SES Health of Ukraine. In turn, Central SES should not simply summarize the data and conduct a thorough analysis of them and immediately notify the Ministry of Health of the problems identified in the regions and provide appropriate responses. Particular attention is paid sanlikariv to restore trust in the vaccination of information and education. Alexander Bilovol commissioned to organize the most open of sansluzhb, Meeting with the press and public awareness on various aspects of sansluzhby.

Another issue that was discussed at the meeting were the laboratory equipment of regions.

In 2009, new equipment for molecular genetic diagnosis of influenza came to the sanitary-epidemiological stations of Crimea, Vinnytsia, Volyn, Lviv, Rivne, Ternopil, Zhytomyr, Transcarpathian, Zaporizhia, Nikolaev, Kharkov, Kherson, Cherkasy, Chernivtsi regions and Central SES Health . Alexander Bilovol noticed major areas of state sanitary doctor of the need for the most effective use.

The meeting Bilovol Alexander drew attention to the need to strengthen health surveillance for compliance with sanitary legislation in schools. He appealed to the matter under personal control particularly on compliance with temperature in pre-school institutions, boarding schools and student hostels. If necessary, sanlikari should apply drastic measures to work only those institutions that can provide the appropriate temperature facilities.

Another important task Sansluzhba identified the improvement of normative-methodical documents.

OK. So we have eight deaths TOTAL in Ukraine between the 24th (1037) and 30th (1045), of which it appars four were in Donetsk (and two more might have been in Rivne, although those might be included in the 1037).

They might be stopping daily updates as the outbreak is in decline.

Of note also is their count of 31,596 currently in hospital is an overstatement by the 1045 fatalities - they seem to have subtracted discharges from admissions, without taking into account that there is a second way to get out of the hospital. The correct current hospitalization count should probably be 30,551.

Health Ministry: death toll from flu, respiratory infections in Ukraine rises to 1,076
Today at 20:53 | Interfax-Ukraine
The number of those who have died of flu and flu-like illnesses in Ukraine has increased to 1,076 people as of February 8, the Ukrainian Health Ministry's press service reported on Monday.

According to the ministry, the epidemic threshold was not exceeded in any Ukrainian region.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic (October 29, 2009), over 4.922 million people have contracted flu and respiratory infections.

Since October 29, the largest number of deaths has been recorded in Donetsk (172) and Lviv (106) regions.

The ministry publishes no separate statistics on cases of A/H1N1 influenza or swine flu.

A single new update, covering the period of February 1-7. 12 deaths in that period in cluding one pregnant woman, 4 of them in Donetsk, to a total of 1,076 overall, with 172 of them in Donetsk. Total ARI for the week is 217,000. Total number currently in hospital is 24,600, down for 30,000-35,000 in the last daily reports (which stopped on January 24). Total 223 in ICU, 14 on respirators.

No oblast is above the epidemic threshhold, but four oblasts are approaching it. I wonder if there has been a drop in ARI activity between the 24th and now, and it might just be starting to rebound (that ICU number is a bit higher than the last few reports).

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1076 total

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1076 total

17 more deaths in period from February 8-14, for a total of 1,093. A reported 146 in ICU, 3 on respirators. Total number hospitalized countrywide is a little over 23,000 (which is the lowest point yet). Donetsk has just 239 hospitalized, eight of them in ICU, none on respirators.

There may be a misreporting out of oblast #8, Zaporizhia, which reports 52 in ICU, more than one-third of the country's total, but still no one on respirator (and no deaths in the past week). Looking at the other oblasts, it may be that they intended to report 2 or 5 in ICU, not 52.

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1093 total

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1093 total

http://www.moz.gov.ua/ua/main/press/?docID=14901

For the week ending the 21st, 14 more deaths (7 in Donetsk) to a total of 1107. Now 134 in ICU, 11 on respirator. Zaporizhia, #8, is still reporting 28 in ICU (down from 52 earlier), which seems abnormally high, but still no one on respirator there and no death in the past week, so the problem still seems like a reporting issue, not a more severe outbreak.

Donetsk now has 186 deaths total.

Oblast #3, Volyn, is still the only oblast classified as approaching the epidemic threshhold.

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1,107 total

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1,107 total

http://www.moz.gov.ua/ua/main/press/?docID=14990

Four deaths in week ending February 28th (although the report accidentally calls it March 28th), two each in Lviv and Donetsk, to a total of 1,111 total. Lviv has 110, and Donetsk 188.

Total 131 in ICU, 11 on respirator.

Oblast #8 is still reporting 37 in ICU, 3 on respirator, but no death in weeks, so this is likely some kind of reporting bug.

All oblasts are now "in the clear" with respect to the epidemic threshhold.

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1,107 total

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1,107 total

http://www.moz.gov.ua/ua/main/press/?docID=15031

Reported 7 deaths in week ending March 7th to 1,121 (so maybe should have been 1,114 last week). The discrepancy seems to be Lviv, which was at 110 last week and is now at 113, despite not reporting any new deaths.

I suspect much of the ARI/ILI now is background noise (it is still winter in the Ukraine).

Now 105 in ICU, 6 on respirators (the lowest respirator count yet).

All oblasts remain "in the clear".

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1,121 total

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1,121 total

http://www.moz.gov.ua/ua/main/press/?docID=15054

Six more deaths in week ending March 14, to a total of 1,125 (yeah, I know it doesn't add up - I've given up on tracing those errors/corrections).

Now 82 in ICU, 7 of them on respirators.

Zaporizhia is now down to 14 in ICU, no one on respirator, and no death in weeks. It really isn't clear to me what happened there; perhaps one hospital was improperly/incorrectly reporting.

Total ARI since the beginning of the pandemic (October 29?) is now just under 6 million cases. I'm not sure at what point they will reset that count.

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1,126 total

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1,126 total

http://www.moz.gov.ua/ua/main/press/?docID=15184

Only one more death in week ending March 28th (for the second week in a row), to a total of 1,127. Now 65 total in ICU, only one of them on a ventilator (that's a new low). Oblast #8, Zaporizhia, has cleared up whatever was causing the reporting bug the past couple months, and now reports just one patient in ICU (not on ventilator).

The total number listed as hospitalized is now about 21,000, but now we finally have proof that something is wrong with the hospitalization numbers, because in Donetsk, the 33,563 discharges plus the 193 deaths add up to more than the 33,691 hospitalizations. I assume estimation was used in some form, and now as the number in hospital declines to almost zero, the bugs in the estimation are becoming more clear. Likewise, I doubt oblast #4, with no death in weeks, and only four in ICU really has nearly 5,000 in hospital right now. There is also a oblast that now (#27?) has more people listed in ICU (three) than in hospital (two = 2,757 hospitalizations - 2,737 discharges -18 deaths).

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1,127 total

Re: Ukraine MOH: Daily Counts: 1,127 total

http://www.moz.gov.ua/ua/main/press/?docID=15246

One death in week ending April 4th (a pregnant woman in Ivano-Frankivsk) to 1,128 total. Now 42 in ICU (a new low), 2 of them on respirators.

The bugs mentioned last week seem to be resolved, and the total number estimated in hospital is now down to about 18,000 (which is still likely not right, but at least is something to compare to previous weeks).
