A Holladay-area teen-ager has the state?s first confirmed case of the measles since 2005.

The teen is a student at Olympus High, a school district spokesman confirmed. The student is under a voluntary quarantine, according to the Salt Lake Valley Health Department...

HOLLADAY — The local health department has contacted up to 150 people who may have been in contact with a teenager who has come down with Salt Lake County's first confirmed case of measles in 14 years. They have also discovered two new probable cases of the disease in the valley.

"The number keeps rising," said Salt Lake Valley Health Department spokeswoman Pamela Davenport. She said both new cases are believed to have a recent history of travel outside the U.S. and are linked to the first case...

The Salt Lake Valley Health Department has identified two more individuals who probably have the measles.

Both individuals had apparently traveled out of the country, and both are linked to the Olympus High School teen who has the state’s first confirmed measles case since 2005, according to the health department. They are the county’s first cases since 1997...

Four Utahns have now been confirmed to have the measles and the number of schools affected by the outbreak is growing.

Staff at Skyline High School and Evergreen Junior High spent the weekend poring over immunization records to identify students who are not fully immunized against the virus and notifying parents to keep those children home until April 25.

Similar actions were taken last week at William Penn Elementary and at Olympus High School, where the outbreak is believed to have started, bringing the total number of affected schools to four. All the schools are within the Granite School District...

HOLLADAY, Utah—

Four cases of measles have now been confirmed in the Granite School District and several schools have been affected by the outbreak.

The schools affected are Olympus and Skyline High Schools along with William Penn Elementary and Evergreen Jr. High. The quarantine on students who have not been immunized has also been extended to April 25.

22 students from Olympus High School and two students from William Penn Elementary along with teachers who have not been immunized must stay home until that date...

All confirmed cases have passed beyond the infectious period, therefore the patients are no longer under voluntary isolation. However, people who are unvaccinated and were exposed to the six people with measles remain under voluntary quarantine (and excluded from school) because the measles incubation period has not ended and those individuals may still develop and transmit the disease...

Hundreds exposed to measles at Kristof, U. of U. events?

Public health officials believe the measles virus has likely spread outside of Salt Lake County and are urging Utahns to get vaccinated earlier than usual...

...Health department spokeswoman Charla Haley said the person attended the events ? a presentation by author Nicholas Kristof at Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake City on April 11 and the Entrepreneurial Challenge Final Awards Event at Rice Eccles Stadium at the University of Utah on April 13 ? before he or she knew he or she had the measles.

The state and the Salt Lake Valley health departments are seeking individuals who attended those events and who weren?t naturally immune to the measles or fully vaccinated against the virus. They want those people to quarantine themselves in their homes until the infectious period has passed: April 29 for the Kristof speech and May 1 for the U. event.

Anyone who attended either event should call the Utah Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 and choose option six on the recorded message, health officials said...

22 students at Payson school sent home due to measles scare

Twenty-two children were excluded from Park View Elementary in Payson Thursday because they weren?t fully immunized against the measles.

They cannot return to school until May 10 because they may have been exposed to the virus from another student and could be contagious.

A preliminary lab test came back positive for the student, but the test has a high false positive rate, according to the Utah County Health Department. More definitive test results are expected Friday.

Nebo School District spokeswoman Lana Hiskey said 10 school staff also can?t return until May 10 because they don?t have proof of having received two measles, mumps, rubella vaccinations. The district hired four substitutes to cover the teacher absences, she said...

The Salt Lake County measles outbreak is over.

Salt Lake Valley Health officials announced on Tuesday afternoon that since there have been no new suspect cases since the original 28-day quarantine began, the outbreak has run its course.

"Because there continues to be measles outbreaks in other parts of the world and across the country, it is nearly impossible to definitively say that we will not see any more measles cases this year," said Gary Edwards, the agency?s executive director.

Cache County child has confirmed case of measles

A school-age child in Cache County resident has the measles, health officials at the Bear River Health Department said Tuesday, the first confirmed case in the county in many years.

Officials do not yet know how the child caught the highly contagious virus, said Jill Parker, spokeswoman for the department. It?s possible the child caught the measles from an undetected case related to Salt Lake County?s recent outbreak, but the exact source may never be known, she said.

About fifteen people ? including unvaccinated students at the child?s school, which ends classes on Thursday ? have been asked to self-quarantine, Parker said.

The Bear River Health Department is working to contain a measles outbreak in Cache County that has spread to four people.

"We have three new cases of measles confirmed [Monday] in Cache County. That brings our total to four cases," said department spokeswoman Jill Parker.

One adult and three children between the ages of 5 and 17 have been infected by the highly contagious virus. Parker didn?t know if any of the four had been vaccinated.

The three new cases were "close contacts" of the elementary-age child who became the county?s first confirmed case on May 30. That child had traveled to Salt Lake County, where a measles outbreak recently ended. Parker said the health department is still trying to determine if the child was infected in the Salt Lake area...

Confirmed measles cases grow in Cache Valley

There are now five confirmed cases of the measles in Cache Valley. According to the Bear River Health Department, there are no additional "probable" or "suspect" cases. The health department continues to investigate possible measles cases and to track all contacts of confirmed cases in an effort to contain the measles outbreak and minimize the outbreak's impact on the community.

The first case of measles in many years was detected earlier this month. That number quickly spread to four confirmed cases by June 7 and that number has now grown to five.

Measles scare: Central Utah power plant turns away hundreds of workers

A measles outbreak in northern Utah has spread to a county in the central part of the state, forcing a power plant there to turn away hundreds of employees.

A Millard County resident tested positive for measles late last week, the first confirmed case in the region in many years, say officials at the Central Utah Public Health Department.

The individual is believed to have caught the virus in Logan where the person had traveled to get married, said agency spokeswoman Lisa Taylor. The case is likely connected to a measles outbreak in Cache County, which may or may not be linked to an outbreak that started this spring in the Salt Lake area.

The Millard County individual worked at the Intermountain Power Agency plant in Delta, which has asked about 100 employees and contractors born after 1957 not to come to work until they could prove they have been fully vaccinated...

The Utah Department of Health issued a news report a few weeks ago stating that "The total number of confirmed measles cases in Utah has grown to 15, with known infected individuals from Cache County in the north to Millard County in Central Utah."

Fortunately, they said, "all 15 cases are no longer contagious...."
