8 die of mysterious fever

Eight people have died of mysterious fever in the last 24 hours here.

Chief Medical Officer today said adequate arrangements were being made to check the spread of the fever.

The team of doctors were being sent to rural areas to tackle the disease.

The people, who have died so far of this fever included residents from Nagla, Jot and Gawal Toli colonies.

Six more succumb to mystery fever

KANPUR: Six persons, including three children, died of `mystery' fever in separate villages of Ramabai Nagar on Sunday.

The outbreak of the fever has forced the health department to send a team of doctors to the affected villages of Rasoolabad, Amraudha, Sarwan Kheda and Gajner.

According to sources, six more patients of malaria were admitted at the district hospital on Sunday. As many as 97 people are suffering from the fever.

Those succumbed to the `mystery' fever on Sunday were identified as Vikas (4) of Gandhi Nagar, Rasoolabad, Mukesh (30) of Amrauhiya, Shalini (7) and Ram Avtar (55), both of Amraudha, Anwar (40) of Gajner and Gaurav (13) of Sarwan Kheda.

SDM, Derapur, SD Ram said: "We are yet to identify the exact nature of the fever."

The article above continues below. The mention of stagnant water raises the possiblility of either JE, AES, or cerebral malaria. Either way, this isn't flu:

According to the doctor at Rasoolabad primary health centre, all the victims first developed high fever before having convulsions and dying.

A paediatrician, who accompanied the health team to the villages, said that the outbreak seemed to be a virulent form of encephalitis.

"The children succumbed within 12-14 hours of the onset of high fever," he said.

"We have told the block health officials in Derapur to clear the stagnant water immediately and send blood samples collected from affected persons to the district hospital at Akbarpur," chief medical officer Lajjaram said.


Nearly 400 villagers of Gilauliya in Derapur block are down with fever since the past one week. Shiva, Jaipal, Mahipal, Jyoti, Phool Kumari, Kapil, Vishal, Muskan, Rohit, Jaikaran, Neha, Ravi, Nidhi, Romi, Reeta, Shiv Devi, Rukmani, Rampyari, Sharbati, Prema, Priyanka and Sindoori were among those having fever.

Raghuram of Derapur said his three-year-old son, Bablu, was fine when he had dinner and went to bed last night. "He suddenly fell ill this morning. We took him to the health centre where he became unconscious."

"There is no health facility here and the doctors are just distributing paracetamol tablets," Balram, another villager added.

Actually, there might be two separate outbreaks in this thread, both in Uttar Pradesh. There seems to be one in Ramabai Nagar that the above article refers to that looks like encephalitis, and has been going on for over a month, with 40-90 fatalities already, and the original one in Mainpuri that we don't have a symptomatic description of, and just post #1 in this thread.

While three minors, including a six-year-old girl, suspected to be suffering from `mysterious fever' died at the Akbarpur district hospital, Gauri Rajjan and Pukhrayan villages in Ramabainagar district, a 25-year-old youth died at Banwaripurwa village taking the death toll to 117, here on Saturday.

After `mystery' fever, malaria and falciparum malaria have tightened grip in various villages of Ramabai Nagar,Kanpur Dehat. The number of malaria and falciparum malaria cases reported from the district hospital and other private hospitals rose to about 70 and 6 respectively. As many as 78 cases of malaria were detected from several villages in Ramabai Nagar, deputy chief medical officer, Arvind Sachan, who was appointed as a nodal officer,epidemic, said here on Thursday.
