Veracruz, Tobasco and Nayarit- Flaccid Paralysis in the region of Orizaba, 42 sick, 2 dead - November & December 2010

Re: Veracruz and Nayarit- Flaccid Paralysis in the region of Orizaba. Confirmed Guillain Barre

Re: Veracruz and Nayarit- Flaccid Paralysis in the region of Orizaba. Confirmed Guillain Barre

Unfortunately, the more likely cause for AFP with that prodome is an infection, not an autoimmune response. Enteroviruses are highly suspect, and polio needs to be excluded. There are also some toxins that could produce such a syndrome, but that seems less likely due to the wider geographical spread. Campylobacter infection should also be considered (see below).

Apparently, this has been going on since early September.

The authorities of the Mexican state of Veracruz today [14 Dec 2010]
confirmed an outbreak of 30 cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome, with 2
deaths.

The state secretary of Health, Pablo Anaya Rivera, said that patients
are being studied by specialists from the World Health Organization
(WHO) and laboratory analysis is being performed by the CDC, Atlanta,
GA USA.

He said the dead had other illnesses that made them more susceptible
to disease, while the rest, some of whom have recovered in their
homes, are being treated in hospitals of the Instituto Mexicano del
Seguro Social de Orizaba Veracruz and Rio Blanco. "There are no data
to determine the cause of the syndrome," the official said, adding
that those affected are children from 4 months old to adults over 70
years.

Guillain Barre syndrome presents itself as a flaccid paralysis that
begins in the extremities and affects the spinal cord, causing loss of
the myelin sheaths of nerves in the spinal cord. Experts do not know
what the exact cause of the disease is, but it is believed to be
caused by the immune system's reaction to infections, say Spanish
researchers.

In half the cases, the 1st symptoms appear as a respiratory or
gastrointestinal viral infection, but there are also reported cases
with infections and surgeries as propagators, says the group Guillain
Barre Syndrome Support, based in Spain.

The institution "Iberian" states that another risk for developing the
disease is receiving an immunization, and it draws attention to rare
cases occurring after vaccination against rabies and swine flu.

[ProMED has reported a few clusters of Guillain Barre Syndome (GBS)
before (see below). GBS is thought to be an aberrant immune reaction
elicited by an infection or, in rare cases, immunizations. Previous
studies have linked GBS to infections with campylobacter, but a
cluster of 30 cases closely related in time and geographical area
would mean that many cases should be diagnosed with the infection, but
without GBS, and only upper respiratory tract symptoms are reported
here.

The risk of GBS after influenza vaccination is estimated to be 0.8 per
million doses administered after the pandemic H1N1 vaccine (see below)
and cannot explain this cluster of cases. ProMED will be happy to post
further information. - Mod.EP]

Just a note as per post 20 above.
The title says Nayarit in Spanish and English, but perhaps an error by the author? They may mean Naranjal? As most of the cases accept 1 in Nogales appear to be in Veracruz? On the opposite side of Mexico...

C?rdoba, Veracruz .- Given the possible association of the vaccine against influenza A (H1N1) with Guillain-Barre syndrome, the World Health Organization (WHO) made recommendations to the Epidemiological Surveillance System of Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) to include all age groups, even to prevent resurgence of polio, which is why the epidemiological alert is at its highest level, ie at level 6 (6s1), surpassing the influenza A (H1N1) was found in the scale 5 last year.

And is that the epidemiological alert is at its highest level since the Guillain-Barre syndrome and poliomyelitis are considered the main diseases in the group of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP), which attack the nervous system and are no longer suffering included in the list of morbidity, even Mexico is certified free of polio.

Until December 3 this year, the Ministry of Health confirmed two cases in Veracruz in the area of C?rdoba: 1 and 1 Cuitl?huac Carlos A. Carrillo, adding to the 21 concerned in the region of Orizaba. The cases are known to the Sanitary District No. 6.

Official documents of the Ministry of Health to unveil epidemiological alert against the PFA is from 7 December, after the first outbreak in the town of Guadalupe Victoria, the municipality of San Blas, Nayarit, Sept. 26 . Including seven cases. Only one case of the outbreak progressed with influenza-like illness.

The second outbreak occurred in Orizaba with 23 cases identified between November 8 and December 3, ages range between 3 and 50 years of age. Of these only 1 in Carlos A. Carrillo, 3 Ixtaczoquitl?n, 2 in Nogales, 15 in Orizaba, 1 in San Andres and 1 Tenejapa Cuitlahuac.

Official sources confirmed last night that, in addition, another case was detected in Cuitlahuac and one in Cuichapa.

56% of the patients had respiratory distress (cough, runny nose, sore throat, 13 days before the onset of paralysis. The 39% gastrointestinal upset, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, myalgia, arthralgia, fever, respiratory distress and poor condition. As of 10 December 6 patients remained serious and two died.

Of the two deaths, one corresponded to a female person 48 years of age, with a history of seasonal influenza vaccination on 1 November and the second a 56-year-old with a history of hypertension, a who was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome.

The paralysis in this second outbreak has been presented with features distal, ascending, with a decrease or abolition of tendon reflexes, impairment of thoracic and pelvic in 83% of cases, involvement of cranial nerves in 8%, and involvement of respiratory muscles 21% of cases.

Carrillo and Cuitlahuac.
But on Saturday, Secretary of Health, Dr. Paul Anaya, at a press conference at the Health District No. 7 confirmed 30 cases and two deaths.
According to the epidemiological situation section explains that the first case began with paralysis on 8 November and most recently on December 3, 2010, 48% (10) are women and 52% (13) males. Twenty of the patients are older than 15 years.
Of the two deaths, the specific document is a 48 year old with a history of having been vaccinated against seasonal influenza on 1 November, although the paralysis began since 8 September, the death occurred 22 November, the second is a 56 year old male with hypertension eight years of evolution, he began with paralysis on 19 September and died on November 23, diagnosed with Guillain-Barr? syndrome.
Meanwhile, in the town of Guadalupe Victoria, the municipality of San Blas in Nayarit, occurred the first outbreak of acute flaccid paralysis in seven cases, between 26 and 28 September.
The patients were two aged 15 and five of six to 14 years of age, in any case had a history of vaccination against influenza A H1N1, or influenza box in the last year.
Six of the seven cases were linked by geographical proximity or kinship home. In four cases, health officials found infection type B influenza virus in a co-infection with dengue and influenza B and other dengue infection.
The document consists of two sheets, explained in the background section before the start of vaccination against influenza A/H1N1 and the possible biological association with Guillain-Barr? syndrome and recommended by the World Health Organization, there changes to the system of epidemiological surveillance of acute flaccid paralysis.
Among the changes is the opening of surveillance to all age groups and not just under 15 years, as has been happening.

Have not identified the source of infection

ORIZABA WORLD

Deputy Director of the Department of Epidemiology, Federal Health Ministry, Gatel Hugo L?pez-Ram?rez, have not identified the source that causes acute flaccid paralysis (AFP), it would be irresponsible to draw that any water or food is the cause of the disease.
Also ruled out due to an adverse reaction to influenza vaccine. "We do not think the case at this time, but all scenarios studied, the history of vaccination is low in patients, it makes us think there is no relationship between one thing and another."
The federal official stressed that vaccination against influenza during a pandemic it was and still is, is a very important instrument of control, and therefore recommends that all biological applied.
Across the country there are cases of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) sporadic, but outbreaks only in Orizaba and Nayarit.
Following the epidemiological alert issued last week, other states began to report cases. He said the presence of the federal agency because there is no gravity, but is a measure of confidence, also found that the number of identified cases is not useful, given the amount of population.
- In addition to the Guillain-Barr? syndrome, what other diseases might be?
- "It's a very large repertoire, usually acute flaccid paralysis classify them into purely neurological and muscular problems and the list is really extensive," he said.
Meanwhile, the investigation proceeds to find out what is and what its source.
Ensured proper care and treatment for patients.
"We must remain open to the possibility of occurrence of more cases, we do not know if the outbreak is over and could present more people with this condition."
He stressed the importance of population conducted public health recommendations such as washing hands, eating foods rich in vitamin C, avoid contact with people suffering from flu, and general precautions.
Surveillance of acute flaccid paralysis, he said, has existed since the sixties and throughout the world were originally focused on infectious problems such as polio, polio does not exist here since 1994 and the system remains alert to detect early problems in a timely manner.

In the past three days, the Health Department identified three new cases of acute flaccid paralysis, two adults and an infant, with totaling 33 in the state, mostly in the Orizaba region. No new cases continue to appear dismissed.
The health secretary, John Anaya Rivera, asked the public to seek medical care immediately if you experience leg problems as tingling, muscle cramps or weakness, to be monitored and treated in time, but especially avoid self-medication.
"In Veracruz we are on alert, any case of paralysis is international reporting. We have specialists participating teams to integrate and investigate all this is to leave nothing to chance. "
Revealed that patients identified, 60% (19) and digestive diseases was 58% (17) breathing.
"They suffer from acute flaccid paralysis, has multiple causes, while not having the lab test, it would be irresponsible for us to say what causes the disease. For now only called acute flaccid paralysis is reversible, no specific treatment and support when suspected Guillain-Barre syndrome. "
Responsible for the health of Veracruz reported that 28 samples have tested negative to everything and only five with a respiratory problem, "so we are focusing on the airways without neglecting other aspects."
He said there are necessary and adequate medical services to treat the condition in the region of Orizaba, are prepared to meet any contingency.
Researchers and scientists said: "Do not make bold statements in the sense that it is post-vaccination, in this case is no adverse reaction. We ask people to be quiet, both federal and state governments are working to investigate, we will give all information to the public. "

Health Secretary at the Institution explained that 60 percent of patients were under medical observation agreed respiratory or digestive problems. He reiterated that "the condition is not contagious, it starts in the lower extremities with loss of muscle tone and can progress to affect the respiratory muscles, so it is necessary to inform people who have such symptoms that you contact a center for be considered and addressed in a timely manner. "

Pablo Anaya Rivera said no similar cases have been detected in other parts of the Bank and said he was concerned that the 33 patients identified are in a very limited geodemographic area that must be addressed promptly.

He said the information related to this disease has crossed borders, to the extent that the Atlanta laboratory is interested to send their staff to study patients.

The health secretary, Juan Pablo Anaya Rivera, reported that all units in the health sector (health centers, clinics and IMSSS ISSSTE) attend probable cases of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) for monitoring and treating.
In TV interview, the officer revealed that the total of 34 AFP cases, ie one more. Of these, 23 correspond to Orizaba, nine adjacent municipalities and two to the Health District of Cordoba.
It was known that the Secretary of Health will be two days in Orizaba to oversee the research work of the groups formed on Tuesday. Is expected to start today after the sampling of water and food that would include not only the neighborhoods where there are cases, but the entire city, in search of the triggering factors of the outbreak.
Yesterday it was revealed that a patient discharged more, and stressed that 70% (23) of cases detected and are recovering at home.
"It is not a contagious disease, but we must exercise caution in patients with respiratory or gastrointestinal infection."

Entirely ruled out that the acute flaccid paralysis is related to the vaccine antiinfluenza, because only two of 34 cases got the vaccine. "There is a vaccine-like reaction want to see some researchers, we can certify that it is not after vaccination."
Anaya Rivera reiterated that those who feel tingling in the legs, weakness or cramps, should seek medical care at any health facility, to be coordination with all institutions.
He invited the population to be vaccinated to protect against respiratory diseases, typical of the winter season.

Influenza vaccines do not cause flaccid paralysis: P. Anaya
The health secretary, Paul Anaya, held a press conference with the media Sol Cordoba comunicaci?n.El
December 17, 2010

Yolanda Reyes Apodaca

C?rdoba, Veracruz .- The Secretary of Health of Veracruz, Pablo Anaya Rivera denied that the vaccine against influenza A (H1N1) is the cause of the 33 cases of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) detected in the C?rdoba-Orizaba area, therefore , reported that they began to find other lines of research in water, meat products, and metals Organophosphorate to identify the source and banished.

By attending yesterday afternoon at the staff of El Sol de Cordoba, the state official sought the assistance of the media not to alarm people with Guillain-Barre syndrome as psychosis generated by the application dropped considerably influenza vaccine, to be poorly associated with the outbreak of acute flaccid paralysis detected in the area.

Accompanied by the head of the Sanitary District No. 6, Minerva Gonz?lez and Irasema Junco Guerrero, Director of Public Health of the Ministry of Health of Veracruz, Anaya Rivera called on the people who have no knowledge of acute flaccid paralysis refrain from making comments because only causing fear among the population and prevents to be vaccinated against influenza.

He explained that the services of state and federation epidemiology research conducted at all levels. Are integrated protection groups and health risks and is conducting research on water samples, especially meat clenbuterol Organophosphorate, metals such as lead, thallium, mercury. The cause of evil is unknown, but did not rule out any of the cases presented may be Guillain-Barre syndrome.

"We have to find the cause, so there is a group clinical, epidemiological, laboratory, environmental, we are sampling everything that happens in Orizaba and places where there have been cases," said Secretary of Health.

Orizaba far is where the outbreak has filed 32 cases, while in the area of Cordoba also two: one and one in Cuichapa Cuitlahuac. Two patients died of concomitant complications.

Pablo Anaya explained why the disposal of influenza vaccine with acute flaccid paralysis and that of the 34 patients only two had applied. 60% had respiratory disease, "then respiratory viruses may be a factor conducive to the disease." 35% had a gastrointestinal disease. Of the 34 patients, 22 have already been discharged. Most patients are over 35 years of age.

Although cases are already controlled, did not rule may arise, because the latency period before symptoms is 52 days. Wednesday was the last case reported is in stable condition at the Regional Hospital of Rio Blanco. The first patient was submitted on 3 November.

The symptoms of this disease: the paralysis is ascending can stop at any place, how bad is that it affects the respiratory muscles. We must be extremely careful with the respiratory system, because the nerves begin to lose their external capita, called myelin, is lost nerve conduction stimulation and no muscle spasm.

To conclude on this issue pointed out, the health sector is prepared to treat patients with trained doctors and medicines, but it is necessary that the first symptoms people come, because it is proven that the earlier they are treated, will heal.

XALAPA, December 17 .- An outbreak of disease called acute flaccid paralysis, with 33 cases in eight municipalities in the central region of Veracruz, which killed two people, forced the Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health to issue an epidemiological alert.
From Tuesday 7 December, the federal agency turned over the office DGE/2010/19/PFA all surveillance units to alert the health sector included seven cases of acute flaccid paralysis in 33 of Nayarit and Veracruz.
In the office is detailed in this state, until last Tuesday, there were 23 cases: Orizaba 15; Ixtaczoquitl?n three, Nogales two, and San Andres Tuxtla, Carlos A. Carrillo and Cuitlahuac one.
However, in the last week there were ten other patients.
In the office it was stated that the deaths are for a 48 year old woman who presented paralysis since September and died on 1 November. Reference quoted was vaccinated against influenza, the November 23 death of a 56 year old man who developed symptoms since 19 September. In both cases the diagnosis was acute flaccid paralysis or Guillain-Barre syndrome.
Paul Anaya, Secretary of Health of Veracruz, said the World Health Organization drew attention to this fact and Orizaba up samples, for analysis, so did federal authorities.
"The three new cases (Tuesday's) is a boy and two adults, up to now we can say is paralysis, Guillain-Barr? likely, but we can not determine because it is multi-causal. Until we conclude laboratory would be irresponsible to say that is one reason or another, "he said.He explained that the common denominator is that patients had a disease of respiratory or digestive and alerted the public to immediately report when they file joint muscle pain, cough, sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting, fatigue, weakness, tingling and cramps.
Said the alert was issued because the cases are occurring in a specific area such as Orizaba, in the colonies Rafael Alvarado and New Town as well as neighboring municipalities.
The disease is not contagious and is treatable if treated in time, anfatiz?.
The state official called attention to some statements of health experts that establish a possible link between the disease and the vaccine against influenza.
Paul Anaya said the Guillain-Barr? syndrome is rather multifactorial and it is irresponsible to link to vaccination against influenza.

specialists do not make unsubstantiated claims about the vaccine is
the cause flu.

Orizaba, drew the attention of the World Health Organization and
federal health sector, whose personnel arrived last weekend to take
samples to patients.

vomiting, diarrhea, cough. Paralysis occurs in legs and arms and will
moving to such a degree that can affect breathing and lead to death.

Comment:
[Stranger still no clear etiology.

Chances are since a? Pseudo-outbreak?, Ie, an expected number of
cases which, incidentally, occurred close to each other. Unlikely, 33
cases of the syndrome is not a small figure.

Exogenous intoxication is most likely from contaminated feed
(Usually Campoylobacter spp.) Or chemical (insecticides, please.

C?rdoba

High alert, there are 33 cases of flaccid paralysis

Health Secretary Veracruz, Paul Anaya, led in this city a
urgent meeting to discuss the 33 reported cases of flaccid paralysis
in the Cordoba-Orizaba.

C?rdoba, Veracruz .- Given the possible association of vaccine
influenza A (H1N1) with Guillain-Barre syndrome, the Organization
World Health Organization (WHO) made recommendations to the surveillance system
Epidemiology of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) to include all
age groups, even to prevent the resurgence of polio,
hence the epidemiological alert is at its maximum scale,
ie at level 6 (6s1), surpassing the influenza A (H1N1)
found in the scale 5 last year.

And is that the epidemiological alert is at its highest level since
the Guillain-Barre syndrome and poliomyelitis are considered
major diseases in the group of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP)
that attack the nervous system and are conditions that no longer contained in the
list of disease, even Mexico is certified free of polio.

Until December 3 this year, the Ministry of Health
Veracruz confirmed two cases in the area of C?rdoba: 1 and 1 in Cuitlahuac
Carlos A. Carrillo, adding to the 21 corresponding region
Orizaba. The cases are dealt with by the Health District Number
6.

Official documents of the Ministry of Health made known that the alert
epidemiological against PFA is from 7 December, after the
first outbreak in the town of Guadalupe Victoria, Municipality of
San Blas, Nayarit, on 26 September. Including seven cases. Outbreak
only one case progressed with influenza-like illness.

The second outbreak occurred in Orizaba with 23 cases identified between 8
November and December 3, ages range between 3 and 50 years of age. Of
including 1 case in Carlos A. Carrillo, 3 Ixtaczoquitl?n, 2 in Nogales, 15
Orizaba, 1 in San Andres and 1 Tenejapa Cuitlahuac.

Official sources confirmed last night that, in addition, another case was detected
Cuitlahuac and one in Cuichapa.

56% of the patients had respiratory distress (cough, runny
nose, sore throat, 13 days before the onset of paralysis. 39%
gastrointestinal upset, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, myalgia, arthralgia,
fever, shortness of breath and general malaise. Until 10
December 6 patients remained serious and two died.

Of the two deaths, one corresponded to a female person of 48
age, history of seasonal influenza vaccination
November 1, the second a 56-year-old with a history
hypertension, who was diagnosed with Guillain
Barr?.

The paralysis in this second outbreak has been presented with features
distal, ascending, with a decrease or abolition of reflexes,
Involvement of the thoracic and pelvic in 83% of cases,
cranial nerves involvement in 8% and impact on respiratory muscle
in 21% of cases.

In one of the sections of the documents referred to possible
association of Guillain-Barre syndrome a vaccine against influenza A
(H1N1) within 52 days prior to the onset of paralysis.

Directions are provided to doctors to refer patients in
if you have symptoms at referral hospitals, in case of
vaccination history exist in the 52 days before the start of the
paralysis, seek information from: lot vaccine, vaccinated with
same batch and the presence of more cases among vaccinated persons
jointly by staff of Health. For cases under 15 years
age also should make the prevention and control actions
around the home for the event, coordinated with
epidemiology staff review.

It should be noted that official information was given to all staff
Medical Sanitary District No. 6 for knowledge is
signed by the head of this office, Junco Minerva Gonz?lez.

VERACRUZ, the largest number of Redlining

Veracruz state ranks first in cases of syndrome
paralysis, and this disease has occurred in Chihuahua,
Hidalgo, Aguascalientes,

revealed the general director of epidemiology at the Ministry of Health
federal, Hugo Lopez Gatell.

He said that throughout the country have sporadic cases of this type
paralysis, but in the case of the experience in Veracruz and warning
epidemiological entity makes share tops the list.

"The number of cases, this issue is important in social communication, but
never is a useful figure because the amount of population in each
state is different. "

At the same time, the federal official denied that the disease is the
condition that attracts most attention in the country, but also added that
have many epidemiological phenomena.

"This is an open field, we have schedules, we work on 365 of
year, we only state team with a strong, capable and well integrated
input and that is reassuring. "

The physician said that the phenomena of this type are not more alert
beyond the available evidence, "for that is the public health,
anticipate the risks, find and solve based on
evidence, technical information science available. "

Stated that acute flaccid paralysis surveillance is in
epidemiology from the 60 originally was headed to
infectious problems such as polio, but since the year 1994 was not
reported this disease in Mexico, "the system remains alert
early. "

And by the existence of this condition in the central region of the state,
have built five groups: the first is the clinician who is responsible
analyzing clinical data and clinical what there is available, the
Compiled second epidemiological data, the third risk
environmental health risks to consider, the laboratory room
headed by the Indre and the State Laboratory of Public Health
Veracruz, fifth, health promotion and risk communication.

UNKNOWN FACTOR THAT CAUSED THE BAD: SSA

According to Health Secretary of the State Government, Paul Anaya,
the outbreak of acute flaccid paralysis in the center will be increased,
to this day account for 33 patients with this condition it is also the
time is not known what is the factor that causes and not
confirms what suffering is, because this SSA is on alert.

Interviewed this afternoon, prior to take after a meeting with
health authorities of the IMSS, ISSSTE, Public Health, Indre, including
other, the state official said Saturday through Tuesday, cases
disease increased because there are already 33.

"The three new cases were a child and two adults, I can tell you
if there still are cases, yes, I can not say when it will
Finally, we had high hopes that what we send to laboratories?
Atlanta National and we could confirm some cases, 80 percent
negative at all, so far we can say that it is a flaccid paralysis
acute Guillain-Barre likely, but we can not determine because
has multiple causes, as we have no laboratory finding would
irresponsible to say that is a cause or another. "

Although he mentioned that it is a paralysis, not
Guillain Barre discarded it and said it intended to be as obsessive or
being labeled with something they do not yet have a last name, "is a paralysis
acute flaccid. "

He said that patients who have had this disease before
Therefore some other condition or respiratory tract, and therefore still
when there is no diagnosis is serving patients who have this
type of symptoms.

"Most cases have been discharged, the two who died a
has an immune substance, you have to tell people that the more
inform us early and go to a doctor when they have early signs
of muscle aches in the joints, the doctor gives you more
opportunity to do more things. "

Revealed that people with diabetes, hypertension and cancer are
easy for you to generate a complication, and this does not worry the
dependence because such cases existed, but what really sets in
alert is presented in a given area geodemographic "very
Orizaba circumscribed and adjacent municipalities and more in some
colonies. "

He added that since the state of Veracruz reported cases of this
paralysis, others did the same, "now appear where
Chihuahua, Aguascalientes, Hidalgo, flaccid paralysis has always been, what
that concerns us is a very circumscribed area. "

He said that while certainly not be what it originates, it would
irresponsible to alarm the rest of the population, and clarified that it is not
contagious, "is treatable, as I said preventive measures for roads
respiratory and digestive tracts. Second, tell people however health
scientists who are, not being very bold statements in the
sense to say that is post-vaccination, there have been adverse reactions
vaccination. In this regard indicated that this is not the case. "

He recalled that fatigue, weakness, reflex changes, "ants and
calambritos "are some of the symptoms in which the population must
to monitor closely, and go to the doctor, so that it is monitoring and
rule out acute flaccid paralysis.

INVESTIGATE CAUSES OF THE OUTBREAK

To assist in determining the causes that have caused flaccid paralysis
among the population of this county and the region, the Coordinated Services
Veracruz Health working together with the Ministry of Health
federal and established five groups to gather technical expertise
and analyze information.

This was announced by health minister in the state, Dr. Paul Anaya, who
was accompanied by Deputy Director of Epidemiology, Hugo Lopez-Gatell
Ram?rez, and medical experts to agree on actions to benefit
Veracruz and reiterated many times as is necessary in this
municipality to support the sick, as instructed by Governor
Javier Duarte.

He noted that while there is uncertainty as to what caused this outbreak
it is irresponsible to alarm the public over and reiterated that
disease is not contagious and is treatable, so again urged the
population to take preventive measures and care for their airways and
digestive.

Confirmed the increase of patients from 30 to 33 years of this disease
is not yet confirmed as Guillain Barre and stressed that 80 percent of
cases sent to the laboratory of the World Health Organization
were negative.

The health secretary said that most cases have been given
high and again called for those who feel some
discomfort such as numbness or tingling seek medical advice immediately
for review.

Deputy Director of the Department of Epidemiology, Secretariat
Federal Health Hugo Ram?rez L?pez-Gatell reported that such cases
have always existed throughout the country.

He added that other states such as Chihuahua, Hidalgo and Aguascalientes are
reporting cases and the concern now is that there are in an area
limited to Orizaba and surrounding municipalities. He stressed that in Veracruz
has a team of state health and judicial quality, highly
strong, capable and well integrated, and that input and is reassuring.

Detail that was held a technical session with entertainment
Dr. Anaya and his team of health of Veracruz to integrate five
technical groups, which will be in charge of analyzing all
Available clinical information and laboratory, another to compile all
detailed epidemiological information on potential exposures of cases
as possible associations with risk factors.

A third of health risks is to consider the contexts
environment that may be relevant to the investigation, one more
laboratory with the participation of the Institute of Diagnosis and Reference
Epidemiological (Indre) and the State Laboratory of Public Health
Veracruz, one of the leading laboratories in the country, and a fifth group
health promotion and risk communication will allow us
efficient liaison with the media and society.

"We did not come because it is a serious problem. We came because we have a team
which technical dialogue, "concluded the federal official.

SYNDROME, AN ENIGMA IN ORIZABA

Despite the secrecy that exists in the health sector and between authorities and
staff of public and private hospitals of the city, the presence of
strange disease Guillain-Barre Syndrome, which outbreak occurred in the
community of Barrio Nuevo, has caused concern and alarm among
population.

Voice of the Secretary of Health of the State Government, Paul Anaya Rivera
were confirmed yesterday, 33 cases of this disease, some patients
admitted to the Regional Hospital of Specialties IMSS, as could be
known.

It should be noted that the Health Secretary himself forbade workers
Sector, externalize any information related to this disease,
to the media. However it transpired that most
cases, 80 percent positive development for the attention
receiving adequate.

In this regard there have been cases of children with this disease, as
confidential reports of public schools, which have evolved
successful so far and do not talk about casualties were reported.

Although no exhaustive investigation into the symptoms and how
spread, some doctors have reported that patients recorded
Home intense fatigue and weakness in the lower extremities, which
gradually advancing until his legs paralyzed.

There are versions where the evil spreads to completely paralyze the
patient's body, but with care and appropriate medications, manage
overcome their critical condition.

However, there are witnesses who say it is a disease
completely unknown and doctors are baffled and
some even admit that there really is no defined treatment and
to combat this evil
