The People's Committee of Da Nang City has just issued a plan for the prevention and control of avian influenza, foot-and-mouth disease, and African swine fever for the period 2026-2030.
The plan aims to proactively control dangerous diseases in livestock, minimize losses to the livestock industry, and protect public health, food safety, and the environment.
Accordingly, the city aims to improve its capacity for management, monitoring, early warning, and timely handling of outbreaks from their inception. This is a crucial solution to limit the risk of widespread disease transmission, especially in the context of increasingly stringent disease safety requirements in animal husbandry, transportation, slaughtering, and consumption of animal products.

Regarding avian influenza, the city aims to reduce the number of outbreaks by at least 30% compared to the average level of the 2019-2025 period; and to vaccinate over 70% of the total poultry population subject to mandatory vaccination. Authorities will also strengthen surveillance to promptly detect virus variants, determine the prevalence and distribution of the pathogen in each area and at each time.
Regarding foot-and-mouth disease, Da Nang aims to reduce the number of outbreaks and the number of livestock that must be culled by at least 30% compared to the average level of the 2021-2025 period. The city also strives to vaccinate over 70% of the total livestock population subject to mandatory vaccination to create active immunity and minimize losses for livestock farmers.
Specifically for African swine fever, the city aims to reduce the number of outbreaks and the number of pigs that must be culled by at least 30% compared to the average level of the 2020-2025 period. Along with this, monitoring, sampling, testing, detection of virus variants, and epidemiological tracking will be strengthened in high-risk areas.
