HANOI, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Diep Kinh Tan urged relevant agencies and provincial animal health bureaus to take quick response to the current complicated developments of diseases in poultry and livestock, according to a report of the ministry's website on Wednesday.

According to the National Steering Committee on poultry and livestock disease prevention, there will be five working groups to be established within this week to supervise the fight against bird flu and foot-and-mouth epidemic ravaging wide in Vietnam.

Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat will lead a group to the Mekong Delta provinces which have been hit hard by bird flu, said the report.

Currently, eight provinces of Vietnam nationwide have been hit by avian flu, including four provinces in Mekong Delta, namely Ca Mau, Soc Trang, Hau Giang and Bac Lieu, three northern provinces of Ninh Binh, Quang Ninh and Dien Bien, and southern Khanh Hoa, said the Department of Animal Health under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Meanwhile, foot-and-mouth disease in livestock has so far this year broken out in nine provinces of Vietnam including four northern provinces of Hoa Binh, Bac Kan, Quang Ninh, Phu Tho, three central provinces of Nghe An, Quang Ngai, Quang Nam, one Central highlands province of Kon Tum, and one Mekong Delta province of Can Tho, said the department.
Blue-ear virus in pigs caused more than one thousand pigs in three Vietnamese provinces namely northern Quang Ninh, central Quang Nam and Mekong Delta province Bac Lieu being infected, said the department.
