A Skyview High School (Soldotna) basketball player set off alarms in Barrow this month when she came down with chickenpox right after arriving in the Arctic coastal city for a weekend tournament. Worried team chaperones weren't particularly happy with the treatment the girl received from the locals: She was quarantined for most of the weekend at the insistence of Barrow High School officials until her scheduled flight home, and doctors at the hospital refused to examine her. Students from other schools teased the Skyview Panthers about being infectious, but the girls fought back: "They went out at pregame and they did this little chickenpox cheer and they had put little red dots with marker on all the players. It was pretty funny," said chaperone Darren Jones.
