Measles exposure at some of Seattle's most popular sights
By KEPRTV.com & KIMATV.com Staff Published: Apr 2, 2014 at 10:04 PM PDT

WA STATE DEPT. OF HEALTH NEWS RELEASE -- A person who was confirmed with measles traveled to several western Washington public locations while contagious. Most people in our state are immune to measles, so the public risk is low except for people who are unvaccinated. People who haven’t been vaccinated or aren’t sure if they’re immune should ask a health care professional for advice.

Public health officials say the Whatcom County woman in her 20s became contagious with measles March 26 after visiting a local family with measles linked to an outbreak in British Columbia. She worked at the Lynden Dutch Bakery while contagious. Measles is highly contagious and can cause severe illness with rash, fever, cough, eye irritation, and can be fatal.

The woman traveled to Seattle for a Kings of Leon concert at Key Arena on March 28, when she also was at the Best Western Loyal Inn and the Wasabi Bistro. The next day, she was at Beth’s Café, Aurora Suzuki, Starbucks at First and Pike, and the Pike Place Market. On those same dates she visited several locations in Pierce County, including Celebrity Cake Studio, LeMay Car Museum, Harmon Brewing Company, and some department stores...

San Juan hit by measles outbreak
by SCOTT RASMUSSEN, Journal of the San Juans Editor
Today at 2:24PM

Because it is so highly contagious, even a single case of measles is considered an outbreak by the Center for Disease Control.

So, San Juan Island, home to four confirmed cases in less than two weeks, is, by definition, in the midst of an ?outbreak...?

...The outbreak, however, has been limited to family and friends of those infected by the disease, according to the health department...

Another case of measles in person visiting Seattle, Sea-Tac airport
Tuesday, April 8, 2014

Local public health officials have confirmed a measles infection in a traveler who was at Sea-Tac airport and two locations in Seattle during his contagious period. The traveler is a resident of California and was likely exposed to the measles while on a flight with an earlier confirmed measles case on March 21, 2014.

What to do if you were in a location of potential measles exposure

Most people in our area have immunity to the measles through vaccination, so the risk to the general public is low. However, all persons who were in the following locations around the same time as the individual with measles should:

Find out if they have been vaccinated for measles or have had measles previously
Call a health care provider promptly if they develop an illness with fever or illness with an unexplained rash between April 7th and April 21st. To avoid possibly spreading measles to other patients, do not go to a clinic or hospital without calling first to tell them you want to be evaluated for measles.

Locations of potential exposure to measles

Before receiving the measles diagnosis, the traveler was in West Seattle and at Sea-Tac Airport. Anyone who was at Sea-Tac Airport or the locations listed during the following times was possibly exposed to measles:

Seattle

Safeway, 9620 28th Ave SW, 03/30/2014, 4:00p.m.-8:00 p.m.
Marshalls, 2600 SW Barton Street, 3/30/2014, 4:00p.m.-8:00 p.m.

SeaTac

Sea-Tac Airport, 03/31/2014 , 4:30p.m.-8:30p.m.: terminal B

If you were at one of the locations at the times listed above and are not immune to measles, the most likely time you would become sick is between April 7th and April 21st...

Measles patient's daily schedule published to alert those who may have been exposed
20-something woman took in Kings of Leon Concert on March 28 in Seattle
Health official: "Measles has a way of finding those who are not vaccinated"

(CNN) -- Washington state health officials have issued a warning to anyone who may have been in the vicinity of a particular woman at the end of March: You may have been exposed to measles, a highly contagious and potentially fatal respiratory disease.

Privacy laws prevent them from showing you the woman's picture or telling you her name, so they're trying another tack: they're telling you where she's been.

The Department of Health posted where she was virtually every hour of the day between March 26, when she became contagious, and March 29, so that you can determine whether you are at risk and possibly need medical attention...

Number of measles cases climbs to five; four no longer contagious
Today at 10:00AM

? Submitted by SJC/Town of Friday Harbor Dept. of Emergency Management

(This press release stated in error that a person with a confirmed case of measles had been at the Town of Friday Harbor planning office, when that person had in fact visited San Juan County's planning department. The article below has been changed to correct that error).

The San Juan County Health Department will be providing additional immunizations in Friday Harbor, Friday, April 11, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m...

...

Currently there are a total of five cases of measles on San Juan Island, four of whom are no longer contagious. However, a Kitsap County resident diagnosed with measles was contagious during his stay in Friday Harbor on April 4. Individuals may have been exposed at the following places and times:

Kenmore Air 8 a.m. flight from Seattle
Port of Friday Harbor Marina, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
San Juan County Planning Department, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Cask and Schooner Restaurant, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday Harbor Fuel Dock, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

These times overlap because the measles virus can remain in the air up to 2 hours and still be infectious...
