Warn diseases increased by drought in Bolivia

November 12, 2009, 07:40 La Paz, Nov 12 (Prensa Latina) The Bolivian Ministry of Health warned that because of drought in regions of the Altiplano and the Chaco can increase diarrheal diseases, dermatological and acute respiratory infections.
According to the manager of Environmental Health, Mario Villagra, quoted by the daily change if the weather continues, residents of affected areas will be at risk for these ailments and other diseases.
Confronting this threat, Villagra said that the highest health authorities devised an emergency plan in coordination with the National Risk and Disaster Care.
Among the measures taken stands drinking water supplies to residents in municipalities in the departments of Chuquisaca, La Paz, Tarija, Oruro, Potosi and Santa Cruz, heavily affected by the lack of rain.
The official explained that the departmental health services of the affected regions, intensive work carried troops operating alongside the armed forces to mitigate the demand of the liquid.
Villagra said that to date there are no reports of people dying because of the weather phenomenon, but it has been confirmed dead livestock.
