Kolkata, Mar 14: A six-year-old boy from Siliguri city in Darjeeling district succumbed to swine flu today, taking the toll in West Bengal to 19 since January. "A six-year-old boy from Siliguri died because of swine flu at a private facility in Siliguri today. He was suffering from the disease for quite sometime and his condition deteriorated in the last couple of days. He was on mechanical ventilation but nothing helped his case," West Bengal Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), Moloy Dey said.

Kolkata, March 17 (IANS) Swine flu has claimed one more life in West Bengal, taking the toll to 22, while 17 more positive cases have been reported in the state, a health official said on Tuesday.

A middle-aged man from Hooghly district today succumbed to swine flu, taking the death toll across West Bengal to 24 since January, a senior official of the Health department said.

During the same period 14 persons tested positive with the H1N1 virus as the total number of infected people climbed to 406 this year, West Bengal Health Services Director Biswaranjan Satpathy told PTI.

A two-year-old girl - a resident of neighbouring Howrah district - breathed her last at the B.C.Roy Memorial Hospital, where she was under treatment for 11 days, Health Secretary Malay Dey told IANS.
"The girl's condition was critical and she was on ventilator support," said Dey, adding the total number of people who tested positive for the H1N1 virus rose to 469 with two fresh infections reported over the past 24 hours.

Swine flu death in West Bengal

Kolkata, May 21 (PTI) After a gap of almost two months, swine flu claimed another life in West Bengal.

A 32-year-old woman resident of Barrackpore of North 24 Parganas succumbed to the H1N1 virus at a private medical facility here in the city yesterday, West Bengal Health Services Director Biswaranjan Satpathy said.

"We have received a report about the death of a person because of swine flu. Though we are yet to get the details of the case primary reports suggest that the woman was admitted at the hospital with Dengue on Saturday. Later on she tested positive with the H1N1 virus," he said.

And yesterday she succumbed to the disease, he added.

The disease had claimed 25 lives in the state from January till March.
