One rubella case confirmed in Milwaukee County

MILWAUKEE ? The City of Milwaukee Health Department has confirmed one case of rubella, also known as German measles in Milwaukee County.

Health Department officials are looking for people who may have been exposed. Health officials say rubella can be very dangerous for pregnant women.

Those who may have traveled in an American United cab, between April 13th and April 21st may have been exposed to rubella...

Rubella case linked to Milwaukee cab driver; pregnant women at risk

Milwaukee health officials are seeking anyone who may have ridden in an American United taxi between April 13 and April 21, during the hours of 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., because a driver employed by the cab company had rubella, but didn't know it...

...The cab company so far has given public health officials the names of 50 people who rode in this particular cab, but the information may be incomplete, and many of his passengers may not live in Milwaukee, said Paul Biedrzycki, the director of disease control and environmental health for the Milwaukee Health Department.

The man was diagnosed at a hospital emergency room April 21 after developing a rash the day before. He was considered contagious from April 13 to April 27.

Public health officials already have contacted anyone who may have been in the hospital waiting room.

About half of people with rubella have no symptoms, Biedrzycki said.

It takes 14 to 21 days after exposure to develop a fever, the first symptom. A person is contagious seven days before and after the rash begins...
