Possible Measles Exposures In Wisconsin From Out-Of-State Traveler
DHS sharing public locations, asking residents to watch for symptoms and check their vaccine status.

WISCONSIN — The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), in coordination with the St. Croix County Public Health Department and Rock County Public Health, is working to identify and notify people who may have been exposed to measles from an out-of-state traveler who visited Wisconsin.

These exposures to measles are not related to the cases previously confirmed in our state.

As of August 19, 2025, nine cases of measles have been confirmed in Wisconsin.

The investigation has identified two public locations and times where people may have been exposed:

Flying J Travel Center #470, 1191 70th Ave., Roberts, Wisconsin on Monday, August 4, 2025, between 7:15 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Pilot Travel Center #289, 3001 Milwaukee Road, Beloit, Wisconsin on Monday, August 4, 2025, between 11:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.​..

Oconto County Measles Outbreak - Updated August 22, 2025

Data about measles cases in Wisconsin can be viewed on the measles dashboard. The measles dashboard will be updated weekly.

On August 22, 2025, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) and Oconto County Public Health have identified five additional cases of measles in Oconto County. The additional cases are linked to the nine cases confirmed in the county on August 2, 2025, bringing the total number of cases to 14, where 12 of the cases are confirmed and two cases are probable.

Confirmed measles cases are cases that meet clinical criteria for measles and have been laboratory confirmed or have a direct link to a laboratory-confirmed case by location and time. Probable cases meet the clinical description of measles, but have not been laboratory confirmed or linked to a laboratory-confirmed case.

The ongoing investigation indicates that measles is spreading locally. At this time, the investigation has not identified locations in public settings for which a full list of exposed people cannot be obtained.

Those who are most at risk are those who are not vaccinated or don’t know their vaccination status. If you believe you have been exposed to measles and are not immune, remain at home and monitor for symptoms.

Anyone who develops symptoms of measles should stay home (do not see other people, including going to work, school, shopping, or using public transportation) and call their doctor’s office or clinic before visiting so staff can take precautions so that other patients are not exposed to the virus.​..

As of August 26, 2025, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) and Oconto County Public Health have identified 21 cases of measles in Oconto County. There has been one hospitalization reported. All of the reported cases are confirmed cases.

Probable cases meet the clinical description of measles, but have not been laboratory confirmed or linked to a laboratory-confirmed case.

As kids returned to school this week in Wisconsin, measles cases continue to spread.

Within a month, the number of cases is up to 24 as of Sept. 2, according to state Department of Health Services, which has set up a dashboard to track measles.

So far, cases have been reported only in Oconto County, but they could spread to other parts of the state, too. State educators are advising students to get vaccinated to contain more spread in classrooms. Students could be advised to stay home for up to three weeks if they are exposed to measles...

Wisconsin measles cases rise to 25, linked to unvaccinated individuals in Oconto County

Nine more people were reported to have measles this month, bringing the total number of cases to 36 in Wisconsin, data from the state Department of Health Services shows.

DHS updated its dashboard Sept. 12 with the total number of cases. All 36 residents are in Oconto County. None are vaccinated with the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine. One case was reported this week and eight cases were identified the week of Aug. 31, according to DHS.

Out of the 36 people, two have been hospitalized. No one has died from the virus.​..
