Malaria outbreak under control

IN response to the increase in the number of cases of and deaths from malaria in Manicaland Province, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and the European Commission's Humanitarians Aid department (ECHO) have been supporting the efforts of the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare (MOHCW) to curb the outbreak.
Drugs for treatment of complicated malaria are being delivered to hospitals and rural health centres throughout Manicaland.
The IRC worked closely with the MOHCW at national and provincial levels, the National Malaria Control Program and the World Health Organisation to identify emergency response needs.
With financial support from ECHO, the IRC bought 285,000 tablets of oral quinine and 120,000 capsules of clindamycin antibiotics. These drugs are expected to cover the needs of over 6 785 people who could develop complicated malaria...
