Cholera confirmed in Chiredzi

Cholera has been confirmed this week at Chizvirizvi rural health centre in Chiredzi district under Masvingo province, The Zimbabwean can exclusively reveal.

This is the cholera case to be confirmed since 2013.

A health official in Chiredzi told The Zimbabwean that more cases could be reported among members of the family of the infected person and the community at large.

?We recorded a single cholera case this week and more could be reported in the community due to poor water and sanitation facilities in the area,? said the source.

Further investigations by this reporter confirm the development.

Cholera fears as Zimbabwe health authorities quarantine two children

Health officials in the Zimbabwean border town of Beitbridge have quarantined two children who are suspected of suffering from cholera, APA learns here Tuesday.According to the Beitbridge district Civil Protection Unit, the children ? from the Donsa area near the border town ? are being monitored at Beitbridge General Hospital where they were admitted since the weekend.

Beitbridge is on the border between Zimbabwe and South Africa and is a transit route for more than 2,000 people who travel by road from the rest of Africa to South Africa...

Cholera cases rise to 12

CONFIRMED cholera cases have risen to 12 while three more suspected cases at Birchenough Bridge were still to be verified, Health and Child Care minister David Parirenyatwa has said.

Addressing journalists in Harare yesterday, Parirenyatwa expressed concern that the government could fail to control the outbreak in congested cities such as Harare where there were chronic water and sewer challenges...

2 more cholera cases in Chiredzi

AT least two more cases of cholera have been reported in Chiredzi bringing to 15 the number of confirmed cases so far, a Harare City Council official has said.

Director of Harare city health Prosper Chonzi said no cases of cholera had been confirmed in Harare as authorities continue to be on high alert for a possible major outbreak of the disease.

?There are only two more cases that were confirmed in Chiredzi a couple of days ago.

?The cases are in the same area where the other cases were reported, but that doesn?t mean we should relax. We should be more vigilant,? Chonzi said...

Five cholera cases reported in Chingwizi

AT least five cholera cases have been recorded in Chingwizi area where over 3000 families displaced by flooding last year along the Tokwe-Mukosi dam basin are staying.

An official from the ministry of health in Masvingo told Newzimbabwe.com that there were strong fears that more people could be affected as there are no proper sanitary facilities to cater for the flood victims...
