Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced the tri-state's first known case of the South African variant of the coronavirus in the region. The case is in a patient from Connecticut who was transferred to a New York City hospital for care and there is no evidence of any spread in the state, he said.
"The Connecticut patient is a Fairfield County resident between the ages of 60-70 who has not travelled recently," Connecticut's health department said in a release. Contract tracing has already been completed, the state's health officials said, who are coordinating alongside officials in New York.
