SA HEALTH is warning Adelaide residents to be alert for measles over the next two weeks.

A 13-month-old boy who acquired the virus overseas has become the state's third confirmed case of the highly infectious illness this year.

Chief medical officer Professor Paddy Phillips said SA Health had already been in contact with a number of people who were exposed to the infected child...

Queensland Health says a mine worker in Moranbah has tested positive for the virus, after returning home from a recent trip to Asia.

Dr Reynor Nieuwoudt says it is extremely contagious and says anyone with flu-like symptoms, a rash, and bloodshot eyes should see their doctor...

A CENTRAL Queensland mine worker has been diagnosed with measles, prompting a statewide alert.

Queensland Health's communicable diseases unit acting senior director Stephen Lambert said the Moranbah worker had contact with mine camp colleagues and others in the past fortnight, triggering concerns he may have infected others.

He said many of the mine workers had returned to homes throughout Queensland...

A NURSE has been diagnosed with measles after treating a Central Queensland mine worker with the contagious infection this month, sparking a statewide warning.

The Moranbah Medical Centre nurse caught the measles from the fly-in fly-out mine worker and was in contact with many patients while infectious from Tuesday May 14 to Thursday May 16.

She is now recovering in home isolation...

Queensland Health has declared a local measles outbreak in the Central Highlands' mining town of Moranbah.

Dr Stephen Donohue says a nurse at the Moranbah Medical Centre caught the virus from a mine worker who contracted the illness while overseas.


Queensland Health says it is worried more cases will emerge in the coming weeks.

Dr Donohue says it is urgently trying to contact anyone who was at the medical centre between May 14 and 16...

QUEENSLAND Health is trying to contact 400 people who may have been exposed to highly contagious measles at a north Brisbane medical centre, sparking a statewide alert.

A Moranbah Medical Centre nurse was recently diagnosed with measles after treating a fly-in fly-out miner for the infection, but public health physician Steven Donohue has warned others who may have been in contact with the nurse have since moved throughout Queensland.

"There is a six to seven-day window where we can try and prevent infection however we are getting to the end of that period," he said...

A LOCAL teenage girl who attended the same cinema as a man infected with measles has become the second person to be diagnosed with the highly contagious disease in the past month.

Tropical Public Health Services director Dr Richard Gair said the case was confirmed yesterday.

Victoria's most senior medical officer has warned of a potential measles outbreak after an infected 26-year-old man travelled through several public crowded locations in Melbourne.

Chief Health Officer Rosemary Lester said it was essential Victorians were aware of the signs and symptoms of measles in light of the recent case that may have exposed a large number of Melburnians to the illness.

"While this case - a 26-year-old East Brunswick man - is now recovering, it is possible he may have infected others before being diagnosed," Dr Lester said.

The man saw a movie at the Hoyts cinema at Northland on the afternoon of Thursday, August 1 and also attended an East Brunswick medical practice on the morning of Saturday, August 3 before being diagnosed...

More people are expected to be diagnosed with measles after 10 cases of the infectious disease were detected in Victoria in three weeks.

A Melbourne man, 26, has been linked to four cases in Victoria and one in Queensland after his diagnosis this month prompted health alerts in both states.

Victoria's chief health officer, Rosemary Lester, said another cluster of four and an unrelated case had also been detected.

The 10th case was a Chinese woman who went to Box Hill hospital almost two weeks ago...

Tourist sparks east coast measles warning

HEALTH authorities along Australia's east coast are scrambling to issue measles alerts in hopes of curbing an outbreak of the highly contagious disease.

Queensland, NSW and Victorian authorities have all issued their own warnings after a spate of cases in each state.

The latest warning comes after a passenger travelling from Brisbane to Sydney on Saturday was confirmed on Wednesday to have the illness.

The foreign tourist is the third confirmed measles case in Queensland in the past two weeks and became unwell after visiting Cairns on August 16.

The holiday-maker had spent time on Fitzroy Island, Townsville, Airlie Beach, Rockhampton, Hervey Bay and Fraser Island before flying to Sydney from Brisbane on Saturday.

Health authorities in Queensland and NSW have issued alerts in a bid to avoid an outbreak, but say the risk to the public is considered very low...

A THIRD case of measles has been reported in Queensland in as many weeks, with the latest diagnosis involving an overseas traveller.

Queensland Health said the case was unrelated to two previous notifications this month.

The traveller recently visited Cairns, Fitzroy Island, Townsville, Airlie Beach, Rockhampton, Hervey Bay, Fraser Island and Brisbane before flying to Sydney on Saturday.

Authorities are concerned people on Qantas flight 0545 which left Brisbane at 5.25pm for Sydney may have been exposed to the highly contagious disease...

QUEENSLAND has recorded two more cases of highly infectious measles virus, one of them a young mother with an unvaccinated child.

Public health specialists are concerned about the potential for the serious virus to spread, with Queensland Health notified of six cases in the past month.

Alerts have been sent to general practitioners, public and private hospitals, and pathology laboratories to be on the lookout for possible cases, given the recent cluster.

One of the two latest cases, a man in his thirties, had visited the Ipswich Hospital three times recently and had travelled on a train, potentially exposing dozens of people to the disease.

A Gold Coast mum has also been diagnosed, triggering concerns for her unvaccinated child...

THE North Coast Public Health Unit is advising people in the Tweed-Byron area to be alert for measles.

One person, who visited Tweed Heads last week, has since been diagnosed with measles. Six measles cases have also been reported in Queensland over the past month...
