THE number of confirmed dengue cases in the Central Division alone has ballooned to 283 following an initial spike in cases last month.
At last count the Health Ministry confirmed 61 cases of dengue in the Central Division and this latest increase has prompted them to call for more action from the public to combat the disease.
Cases have also surfaced in the Western and Northern Division...

DENGUE fever continues to spread with 123 positive cases recorded nationwide in the first three days of this year.
According to figures provided by the Ministry of Health, the Central Division had 109 cases, the Western Division recorded 24 while the North had no cases for this period.
At the end of December last year, there were 283 cases...

The World Health Organization says it?s concerned about a strain of Dengue fever affecting people in Fiji, which hasn?t been seen here for 20 years.
It?s believed the strain could have been spreading with people as they have moved from urban to rural areas during the festive period.
The WHO?s medical epidemiologist based in Suva, Dr Eric Nilles the strain of Dengue fever seen most often in Fiji is strain 1.
Dr Nilles says the strain 3 found over the past few months has over recent decades been found in Solomon Islands and French Polynesia, but hasn?t circulated around the rest of the Pacific...
904 cases of Dengue 3 strain recorded since October 2013

A total of 904 cases have tested positive for the Dengue 3 strain between 30th October last year and yesterday.
Acting Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Health Dr Metuisela Tuicakau revealed these statistics at the pre-launch of the Dengue Clean Up Campaign for the Central Division.
The Central Division is still reporting the highest number of cases with 766, the Western Division 101 with the Northern Division now reporting 37 cases.
Tuicakau said no severe dengue cases or deaths were reported...

DENGUE fever cases in the Western Division are under control and West health inspector Rakesh Kumar said this was made possible with the help of the public.
Mr Kumar said the public had adhered to the warnings and destroyed mosquito breeding grounds...

Health authorities in Fiji say they suspect dengue fever may have claimed up to three lives as the outbreak of the mosquito borne illness worsens.
The Fiji Times reports the Health Ministry as saying 75 percent of its 2014 budget to combat dengue has already been spent in efforts to quell the current outbreak.

Fiji has one thousand four hundred and twenty two cases of Dengue Fever since November.
Health Ministry?s Spokesperson ? Evlyn Mani says this is the highest ever on record, and the Health Ministry is worried as the numbers continue to rise.
?I think a lot of people seem to forget that dengue can lead to death which is something we do not want to happen and that is why we are taking this outbreak seriously?.

Post mortem results have revealed that the 32-year old man who drowned near Rakiraki on Saturday had dengue hemorrhage fever.
This was revealed in the latest Fiji Police press release.
Dengue hemorrhage is a more severe version of the dengue virus that can involve significant bleeding and a drop in blood pressure causing shock and death.
The Malake villager reportedly drowned while spear fishing.

LOCAL government officials in the west are urging people to take dengue warnings seriously because it was now a national problem.
The death of a diver from Ra last week meant the problem was not confined to the Central Division alone, said Ra provincial administrator Kelepi Kubunameca.
"I would like to now issue a very stern message to everyone in Ra to please keep your surroundings clean for the epidemic is at our doorsteps," he said...

Confirming this in an interview today, Health Minister Dr Neil Sharma said bulk of the cases were from the Central Division, however, he reiterated that primary care was very important to fight the deadly sickness...

A TOTAL of 355 cases of dengue fever have been confirmed in the Western Division, according to divisional health inspector Rakesh Kumar.
Speaking to the Dengue Fever Task Force formed yesterday for the Western Division, Mr Kumar revealed Lautoka and the Yasawa region recorded 208 confirmed cases while another 616 were registered as suspected cases.
Nadi has 109 people confirmed with dengue and 465 suspected cases. For the Nadroga Navosa region, a total of 28 cases have been confirmed. Ra has three cases and Tavua has confirmed seven.
Mr Kumar said the Western Division was still not at a risk of an outbreak...
